Title: campsites for families
Post by: vicky77 on August 05, 2009
Can anyone recommend good family campsites?
Are there any good ones with not a lot of people on them?

It depends if you are talking about normal camp sites or wild places to camp. if it's normal camp sites, then any that are listed with the tourist board should be OK. A word to the wise though. Camp sites that have on site bars are, in my opinion, a bad choice for a family. I could almost guarantee that you will be woken up at stupid o'clock by a drunken reveller returning to their pitch. Look for a smaller site outside of a small town. Now if you want to camp in wild places, then you should ask permission of the land owner first.

The burning question is how far are you willing to walk! Most family campsites with secure car parking are busy and not off the beaten track. They also tend to be noisy and full of teenagers. Places that are a bit more remote usually you have to walk a bit to get too.

I hear there is a crackin campsite for families up near the ice house in the Mournes......

Troble is it is only open this Saturday night one night only ;)

Seriously though, look on the tourist board webite for campsites.

Drumaheglis is a good one, have passed by and the location is brill, just outside Coleraine.

Very family orientated.
