Title: Need a new sleeping bag
Post by: RedLeader on September 26, 2012
I'm using 2 bags at the mo for me and a child, the Pipedream 600 (2009 model) and a Vango un-named bag of some sort from around 2003. The Pipedream 600 is pretty excellent and usable all year round but the Vango is fairly poor. I would like to replace it with a slightly lighter bag that would still be usable year round in NI weather. I was originally thinking of a Pipedream 400 but am slightly offput by the price. The 600 I bought in 2009 was £140 but these days the 400 is £150. I'm just wondering if it still represents value for money.

(I'd also consider a good condition 2nd hand bag if anyone's selling).

They had £30+ off them in the Sale a few weeks ago. I still think it is great value for a quality down sleeping bag. The Vango Venom 400 can be had for £130 and weighs 1kg. Deuter or Robens probably have something around that too. Similar offerings from Rab/PHD are all the far side of £220.

The best synthetic offerings will save a bit of cash, but with increased weight. The Lamina 20 can perhaps be sourced close to £100, and I think it's great, but at 1400g is a half kilo and a fair bit of pack-size more than the pipedream.
