Where is the campsite? Is it up the area up near the end of the wood?
-
Yes i believe so, just by the stile.
Remember your tent this time Liam
hoping to try the hammock for the first time :)
-
Cheers Liam
-
Yep, up the valley towards the end of the wood, there's a stile just before a river crosses. There's a stile further on, right at the end of the wood, about 40m further on, if you get to there you've gone too far!

Ah I can almost taste the steak already, weather is looking reasonable too from what I've seen!
-
Hmmmmm, are you trying to make me jelous here ;)

Mmmmm steak ;D

-
can't make this one, only got my rota last night, working to 9.30 pm tonight & starting at 9.30 am tomorrow, have a good one guys,, ;D
-
Whoever gets there first tonight, it would probably be wise to use the camp spot closest to the stile, further into the forest there's a lot of broken glass and getting setup in the dark could be iffy. Basically over the stil and veer right, there's a fire circle already there.
-
I think i ll try and make this one .
Havent had an overniter for a while,
Might try and get there before nite fall ,anybody else headin down early ish say carricklittle 6.30 /7.00
-
Im hoping to be there about 630, whats the craic with parking? where did you guys park last time you were up?
-
You can park your car at the house along the trek,it's the house on the left, with the heavy plant vehicles,it's about £4.00 ,but at least it's better than leaving it at Carricklittle carpark, just knock on the door,ps the Doberman is all bark,no bite :P,enjoy the steak lad
-
The house on the lane is Carrick Plant Hire, they have a sign now for the car park, it' basically first left up the lane. It's £3 for the day and £5 overnight. Seems inflation has kicked in already :)

None from my Menagerie this time. You were asking about peeps going down early. My Boss is letting me go home at 4pm so I might be down for 6:30ish. Depends how the packing goes. I slipped into my ultra lazy setting last night and got nothing done :-(
-
yip him an Dan r on the same wave lenght ;D

That's a shame, catch you next time. Of course, if you get the chance to sneak out take it ;)

then i dandered on up the annalong valley to get a geochache, had considered doing the devils coachroad, but decided alone wasn't a good idea

on my way back spotted what looked like a very good campsite beside the river (B on map) is the sunny bit in the middle of pic

found another good camp spot at point c on the map, not much space for tents though, but very handy to the river for water and could be used if there's a noisy lot near the main site :)

passed by the binnian tunnel, looks like there was a recent flood here
-
Nice photos Liam,I discovered that wee campsite a while back too, after a trek around hares castle, maybe use it soon :)
-
Great weekend chums, as usual, awesome craic around the fire.
-
Looks like a nice wee camp was had. Well done guys.

It wouldn't have been that good due to Rumblebum and myself not being there.. Lol..

I knew there was something missing from the night and just couldn't put my finger on it. Now I know!!! Hopefully you will be able to make it to the Halloween camp. I'm asking for the 28th Oct because I can't do the 4th Nov.
I had a great night at the Annalong Camp. Plenty of banter around the fire, a wee drink to wet my whistle and one of the warmest, comfiest sleeps I've had in the hills in a long time. My bed for the night was my Army Issue hammock/stretcher slung between four trees and my DPM Army Issue Bivvy Bag with the following inside; a 3/4 length self inflating mat, Vango 2/3 season sleeping bag and a Tesco 1 season sleeping bag used as a liner. I slept like a baby through to 5am. Woke to watch a fox explore our camp for 20 mins then dozed back off till 7:15am. I could have lay there all day but unfortunately I had to be in Killyleagh for 9am >:(
Oh, I got to play with my new Biolite Stove too. Wish I could say it burnt like a Blacksmiths furnace but if I'm gonna be honest it wasn't the easiest to keep lit. To be fair though, I haven't read the instructions yet and I had a bottle of wine in me ::) Still, it cooked my sausages and they slipped down a treat. I also forgot to bring my iPhone charger so I didn't get testing it charging capabilities either >:(

Yip it was a good night ,dry and a near full moon and lack of cloud cover made for a great night round the fire.
By 9 the next morning it was a clear and sunny day ahead , landyliam arrived for breakfast and thanks goes for the guided tour of Percy Bysshe. The entrance way to it makes it a local knowledge thing and it was well worth the dander up even with a slight hangover.
