Has anyone on the forum done a trip to Peru. Looking to plan for 2013 maybe 2014 taking in the Amazon ?

Yes, feel free to email me at michael_lyke (at) hotmail.com
I'm still in contact with the guide I had and he was very good.
Incredible journey and was on my list of places to go before I died - :-)

I done the 4 day trek. I booked everything through Trailfinders. They in turn used GAP Travel as the guides. Everything was taken care of flights, transfers, meals on the trek etc. The guides were brilliant and the group we went on was brilliant. Definitely recommend Trailfinders as an easy option.

This sounds like an awesome trip. I can't offer any advice but I'm very jealous :)

Thanks all Mregan trailfinders looks good , did they book flight from here or did you do that?
-
They booked everything that was the main reason I went with them. I had little time to plan and wanted the easiest option available.
We flew Belfast to Madrid the over night in Madrid was included then out to Lima. Stayed in Lima a few days sight seeing hotel included then flew to cuzco for a few days to acclimatise. Then drove out to the start and done the trek. Home was a similar trip. They can sort the trip into the amazon or any of the other places you want to visit. You tell them the length of your visit and they will sort flights accordingly. One thing I would say I wasnt a fan of Lima I would have stayed more days in Cuzco than Lima if I was doing it again, a day is enough. Some nice things to see but like any big city some horrible parts.
This is the agents that trailfinders used. May or may not be the same one they use now but gives you an idea of the packages. You can then mix and match. http://www.gadventures.co.uk/?phone_code=UK_PPC_1

mregan got a quote for £4777 for the two of us out of amsterdam , would you need much spending money and what would be advisable to take in what currency etc

We had most meals covered we only ate out a couple of nights and it was pretty cheap even for the 5 star places we went. Try the Guinea pig it's pretty nice. I took USD to pay the remainder of the GAP Travel guides they want paid in the country to keep money there. I had some Sol as well to buy bits and bobs. Tbh I didn't spend very much I can't recall amounts but most of our trip was covered so it was the odd tour of Lima, food two nights and presents oh and cusquena the local beer. ;D
