I would like to propose a bushcraft cook off where we all bring our different stove kits and systems and help each other expand their knowledge of different systems.
I for one always seem to be coming across new systems and mess kits that I had previously never heard off, and you can't possible own all of them...
So if anyone is up for this let me know, (we can work out dates later)
I can share the use off a
Mini original German esbit folding stove
Esbit MOD use (custom wind break hobo stove mod)
Ikea colander hobo stove
Swedish military mess trangia kit
French mess set
Snowpeak titanium cup 750
Kidney style us military canteen + cup
I think it would be nice to arrive somewhere in the mourns (cause most of us know it) around midday some weekend, stay maybe over night and into the later day then head home, just enough to share stoves, sit round a fire, share recipes and ideas and just generally have a good night.
Of course there will be the obligatory knife comparisons, sleep kits comparisons and generally probably a lot of debating over which is better and why...LOL...It's what we do isn't it?

A campsite cook off :o that's a shocking challenge to Ed & myself,us being the NI-WILD, "Hobbits " for the sake of the Shire we accept & will endeavour to bring pride to Middle-earth,second breakfast's it is ! ;D :D ;D :D

i sugested this last year but it didnt happen. not only stoves but tents sleeping bag ,waterproofs gagets etc
-
Well hopefully this time it will.
If you are both interested, can you share what metal works you have to share...?
-
i'm up for it if date suits, no idea what metalwork i'm using, its a cheapo gas stove out of tk maxx, have a trangia too, and a really old (over 25years!) gas stove that i was using until last year (which is why i was often seen bring sandwiches or a chinese to camp :) )

Sme for me with the metal work, but i reckon ed's new Omni fuel stove will be a sure winner

I'd be bringing a primus omnifuel
Vango mini
easy-clic type gas cartridge and an edelrid adapter to demo
Primus powerlighter (great for use by whoever brings hexamine tabs)
Trangia frying pan
Primus litech pot set
-
Not likely to be free for this. But if I was, I'd bring:
MSR pocket rocket
MSR alpine stainless pots
MSR titan kettle
Vango 8" frying pan
possibly get that Lynx-can meths burner made... ::)

Only one two options for me either the
jetboil or mini trangia

I think that this is a nice round up of people now and metalwares, so it's time to find a time and a place.
I am thinking either spelga side of the mourns or somewhere off to the side of the main walk up to donard are good choices.
Spelga at least is easy to get to by car, but a simple track up from the park is only going to take a few hours anyway. If someone has other suggestions please put them forward. Or more importantly if you can't make it somewhere say so.
As for time, presumably for most of us the weekend is the best choice.
So please for the next two months of weekends jot down when you could make it. and we can see what were all free for, I don't want to leave anyone out as I haven't met any of you yet.

i think meelmore lodge so if people wish to bring multipul stoves they will not have to carry them
-
Yeah but you have to pay for that place, I was thinking a place more suitable for the budget inclined.
I am not against it though if everyone else wants to use it, it just wouldn't be a preference.
-
Ahh it's NI-wild,forget the campsite I found the perfect spot today,30 mins walk, magical place.
-
Yeah but you have to pay for that place,
i think the first 2hrs (or so) are free so handy for day trippers, i think this is one of those events thats never going to happen if we try and get the perfect date, the perfect weather and the perfect people to all turn up :) lets just book a date at meelmore, if no one else turns up at least i'll get a good fry in the cafe, whatever the weather :)
p.s. if we want something a bit wilder than meelmore there's a few great spots 10 mins away in the spellack direction
