Thought I'd start a wee thread to see what everyone's reading. Love a good book myself.
Have a system in work whereby there's a table in which people leave the books they're finished with and take the ones they want to read.
Then had the idea to do the same with a cache in the Hills for anyone on Wild NI.
As soon as I get it set up I'll put on the GPS Co-Ordinates / Map Reference. Obviously it'll be somewhere out of the way like our own Geo-Cache. Any ideas for a good spot let me know!

current book is "how to shit in the woods" seriously :)
the ni-wild cache exists already, currently residing under the seat in my car, meant to put it out again yesterday but forgot to bring it on my morning walk >:(

Recommend:-
Banjo Bannon-"Ascending The Dream." With him being from Norn Iron you can really relate to this. A good read.
Bear Grylls-"Mud Sweat and Tears." I like this guy. He comes across as personable and in today's world he's not the worst kind of role model.
Currently reading:-
Ben Fogle-"The Accidental Adventurer." Was about to put this away but it picked up again and I'm now intrigued about what's to come. Hopefully keeping me interested.
I feel the need, for some reason, to buy "The Book of Bivvy" by Ronald Turnbull plus another book about lightweight backpacking. Any recommendations?
Also, are there any members who either live, or frequent the Lisburn town area ? Why not meet up for a coffe and chat about things outdoors? Costa in Lisburn Mall is good.

Currentyl reading:
Mountains of the mind - Robert Macfarlane
Brilliant book that looks at the fascinations with mountains and how their existence has came to be understood.
Recently read:
Mad, Bad and Dangerous to know - Sir Rannaulph Fiennes
Mud, Seat and Tears - Bear Grylls
Both great books, excellent reads.
We could even use this thread for book lending/swaps

Currently reading some Colin Bateman books.
Just finished I predict a riot. But now reading The day of the jack russell.
Colin is a northern irish writer and the books anr part of a funny series. All of the books are written with a bit of a belfast craic in them.

Couple of recommendations that I've recently read.
'Mud, Sweat and Tears' by Moire O' Sullivan - an account of how the author got involved in Hill Running and Adventure Racing leading onto her attempts of the Wicklow Round
'Feet In The Clouds' by Richard Askwith - another Hill Running book and the book that got me out running in the hills. Simply superb
'Paddle - A Long Way around Ireland' by Jasper Winn - Just started into this and instantly gripped. It's about the author's attempt to kayak around the coast of Ireland.

In June when I was on holiday in Lanzarote there was a book left in my room by the previous occupiers. It was Lee Child's book "Gone Tomorrow" and I picked it up and started reading it.
It is part of the Jack Reacher series and is currently being turned into a movie starring Tom Cruise. Not usually my thing but now I'm totally addicted to these books and probably wont stop till I've read them all.
Since June I have read the following titles:
Gone Tomorrow
Killing Floor
Die Trying
Trip Wire
Running Blind
Echo Burning
Without Fail
Persuader
The Enemy
More about the Series here: http://www.leechild.com/books.php
I'm totally annoyed that they have picked Tom "Short Arse" Cruise to be Jack Reacher in the Movies because Reacher is a 250lb, 6ft 5in, 50 inch chest, Killing machine whereas Tom is a 4ft 120lb Scientologist???
I would highly recommend these books.

Paddle by Jasper Winn is a great book, it got me back into reading again.

Gonna definately get a water-tight drum and plant our very own Wild NI Libary. Reading "Scouting For Boys" at the moment and finding it quite enjoyable.
I was never in the Scouts but kinda wish I had been after reading a bit of the book.
Also reading one called Bad Inc: about a group of ex-Russian airforce pilots who started a smuggling operation (true story and all)
-
currently reading 'bring up the bodies' (hilary mantel) the sequel to the booker winning 'wolf hall' ....it is favourite to win this years booker prize...great reads if you like historical fiction...

Books by John Grisham are worth reading. Just finished reading "The Racketeer" very good. Hard to put down. Just one more page!
A man wrongly convicted gets even, with style.
-
Started to read John Grisham lately myself I'm reading the brethren now .can't seem to put one of his books down .
Killing Pablo about Mr Escobar and his rise and fall is a good read also glue, porno or acid house by Irvine Welsh never fail
-
After reading this thread , I'm halfway through,
Killing Floor by Lee Child... Not bad so far.
The Book of the Bivvy by Ronald Turnball... Halfway through this as well and I'm a bit disappointed, I will have to start it again from the beginning with the right frame of mind.
SAS Survival Guide by John "Lofty" Wiseman... Thumbing through this but a good one for Rusty Madra's cache.
I would recommend any Wilbur Smith book for a good adventure / gripping yarn type read.
-
All sorts...
Brian Lumleys Necroscope series was a good read.
Not usually my thing but was losing the will to live one day, picked the first one up (That my brother was reading) and ended up finishing the series.
Graham Hancocks Fingerprints of the Gods was probably the best book I've ever read...
Given to a friends Dad in hospital, to my friend, to me..
Gives you strange facts found and lets you make your own mind up.
Sparked a lifelong interest that one - still ongoing ;)
Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective agency
The Long dark tea time fo the soul etc etc...
Dan Brown, Chris Ryan, Larry Bond (Vortex), Simon Scarrow(Romans), Patrick Robinson, Jack Higgins.
Just finished 'Badge of Glory' and 'The first to land' by Douglas Reeman (Found it on the rig)
About the Royal Marines around the time when steam was taking over from sail...
Love military fiction...
Best book ever though, without a doubt "Allen Carrs Easy way to stop smoking!"
