Well the bad news!weighting over 6 stone with a hissing noise,it was totally unsafe to think off carrying this keg down the mountain,if i let it go it would surly kill someone :P

i started talking to a chap on the summit & it appears he's Liam's uncle, very proud ;D anyway we discussed the beer keg & he also thought it was unsafe to remove it,without a team of men & a rope to secure it anyway the summit was covered in broken glass so we spent a while lifting asmuch glass as we could

on the saddle again & our way back down
heres the movie from today

Good effort John, looks like you got a good day for it! What the hell do those dullards get out of smashing bottles? >:( effing pondlife!
-
The only way to get the beer keg down is to drink it till it's empty and then carry it down.
When I worked in the pub it was a nightmare trying to change one. If you know anybody in the pub who might lend you the apparatus to open it you could drain the beer out. If it is hissing it means that someone has tried to open it.
-
So you met Eamon then :) he does Donard at least once a week (yes he's had to cut back now he's a pensioner!) Never bothers with a map or compass, goes up in the snow without even a pair of gloves, he's a hardy type, they don't make them like they used too! Not like you and your girls John >:( wearing gaiters up the nice new path when others are in shorts ;D

You'll soon be saying that filp flops are hard core ;D
-
real men go in bare feet ;D (i actually did this on a mountain once, not so bad going up, nightmare going down :o )
-
All over the summits............
-
If they got it up, it certainly can come down.
One long piece of wood, tie the thing to it, and carry it down like a pig that needs to be roasted. On the shoulder of two people, one in front, and one behind.
Job done.
-
or make a slipe and drag it, but still recommend a backup rope case it gets away :o
-
Plans have been drawn for the keg, forgot to say earlier, bumped into another NI -wild member today," Spin " who was with her partner, nice to met you's folks :)
-
good effort john and girls, how about asking MMR to do an exercise and medivac an injured keg off donard. ni wild members could be there to watch them in action for £5 a head donation. keg off hill, niwild day out, MMR training done and a few bob in thier kitty
-
Was thinking MMRT, might be a good way for getting extra funds.
-
ask NT for help as they `own` donard they also have a duty
-
National trust owning Donard? ???Most of the inner Mournes are privately owned & leased to tenant sheep farmer, other agencies are also involved,MHT,Water board,as far as I know th NT have some of Donard forest & some lands around Bloody bridge, here's the thing you'll find," no one will own it when you ask them for help, they will all point the finger at each other" on a brighter note as was chatting to the MHT yesterday near the Ice house & there's plans to start plant native Irish tree's within & bordering the existing pine forest
-
I believe they own most of Donard (including the summit) and some of Commedagh, the water board own everything inside the wall, and the rest is owned by farmers in some sort of trustee thing.
-
I'm glad the NT don't own Donard, for it'd be a commercial cluster*&^
They ruin everything they touch with overcommercialised crap.
I say this two days after being rushed over carrick a rede rope bridge, hassled for spending 5 seconds taking a photo.
-
is it true the gate is to be a toll booth and the ice house a gift shop
-
Spoke with Mourne Heritage trust about the rubbish and the Keg and they are contacting National trust as they own part of Donard along the wall. They are emailing me about organising a litter pick.
-
I was lead to believe that all beer kegs are the property of Bass Charrington, the brewers (or similar) and that possession was only legal amongst the licensed trade. Therefore anyone outside of that trade could not legally have a beer keg eg within the building trades.
Irrespective of who left the thing up there might it not be reasonable to expect that Bass Charrington on being informed of the keg at Donard that they should be responsible for its recovery or at least show some interest in it? I'm thinking of some form of reward?
For your views.

Right back at ya MM and your girls too. ;)
My boyfriend is mad about the hills now and can't wait for his next trip to the Mournes. Carrantuohill by Halloween time too me thinks ...
Keep those posts coming. Someone MUST know, or saw the lads that got that keg up Donard
-
Met a chap today called David Thomson,National trust, they removed the beer keg last week, they were informed by the MHT,who explained NI-WILD members had reported it,well done everyone ;D
-
I was hoping to be able to say to some walkers;"Have a beer on me when you get to the top!" ;D
Glad it has been removed and no one apparently injured in doing so. Would still be interested to know who left it there, and why?
-
That would have been me when I called about the litter pick. Glad it's been removed.
