Alright folks, anybody interested in a summit camp on Bearnagh this Friday night, hoping to do some basic navigation skills,& watch the Seven sevens on the Saturday, planing to meet up at meelmore lodge at 6.30 pm
-
See you there!
-
Count me in
-
bring an extra slice of bacon and i'll try and join you for breakfast ;)
-
I'm in! ;D
-
I'll see how I feel by the end of the week. Up in the hills 3 days in a row this week.
Bring a bag as the amount of rubbish at Hares gap is ridiculous. The amount of banana skins and apple cores was unreal and lots of rubbish tucked into the walls. If I'm up there tomorrow I might do a bit of a clean up. Also lots and lots of Midgies..
-
Good man Spud... See u there.... Will definately bring a bag Kayakgirl!
-
Looking forward to it!
-
And there's me just gone and increased my hours! Should really check the forums before I do such a thing again. :'(
-
is it far from hares gap ? im in with wee chloe (8) if its not ,she made it no probs to the gap last time
-
happy days will be good to meet you all, have met some but should be good night
-
Glad to hear you'll be joining us wee gaz,as I wrote earlier we hope to be meeting at Meelmore lodge around 6.30 pm,hopefully the weather won't be too bad,a few of the folk going will be doing some training later that evening, firstly basic map reading, route planing, kit list,& fitness. On Saturday we hope to cheer on any NI-wild members taking part in the seven sevens, then around mid morning anybody is welcome to join us on a circular trek of around 8 miles, most likly finishing back at Meelmore lodge, part of this route will involve The Devils Coachroad, which is a basic scramble :o! Those taking part in the Mourne marathon will be searching for features along the chosen route from grid references & bearings,it's hoped this will improve on our technique :-\ ,again everyone welcome,I'll be PM my contact details to those going, cheers
-
Stop it...... Your making me jelous now!!! 8)

-
Bernagh! Do we have to go up bernagh for the 7 7's, ahh baaaaaaaalls!
Love it Alan, bearnagh fairly is a leg puller,I reakon if I was you's I'd climb the steps at hare's gap ,but I would then contour round to the left & ascend the summit Tor via the less steep valley that gently contours up,then again,no pain no gain :),ps bacon buddy's can be arranged

I'll strap up the knee and give it a go.
Won't be carrying half of winemark this time though.
-
Could folk bring a fire-log ??? cheers
-
I'll bring a firelog.
Anyone fancy attempting to bring down that beer keg? We could bring some rope and make a few lashings.
-

Anyone fancy attempting to bring down that beer keg? We could bring some rope and make a few lashings.
my only worry would be as its hissing its still under pressure, what's the chance of it blowing ::) it would take a at least two lashings of rope to control its descent, you'll be surprised at how heavy it is,i've been in contact with a few groups over taking it down ::)
-
Leave the keg...Mourne Heritage trust have notified National trust about the keg..
-
Aye... I'll help u with the Keg Oisin... I kinda feel like its mocking us now! >:(

I have a feeling the keg could become part of the tourist brochures before the National Trust get around to doing anything.
Aye... I'll help u with the Keg Oisin... I kinda feel like its mocking us now! >:(
So it's not just me? ;D
you'll be surprised at how heavy it is,i've been in contact with a few groups over taking it down ::)
Well this was the discussion in work today, when I mentioned it. I spoke to a lady who used to work behind a bar and she said usually the keg will hold 88 pints. 80 pints to sell and a boundary of 8 pints as overflow.
So that works out at 50Kg.
It's just calling me as a challenge.
-
I was lead to believe that all beer kegs are the property of Bass Charrington, the brewers (or similar) and that possession was only legal amongst the licensed trade. Therefore anyone outside of that trade could not legally have a beer keg eg within the building trades.
Irrespective of who left the thing up there might it not be reasonable to expect that Bass Charrington on being informed of the keg at Donard that they should be responsible for its recovery or at least show some interest in it? I'm thinking of some form of reward?
For your views.
-
lets just get up there and drink the damm beer , then see who is quickest rolling down donard, man or keg

Good work Chloe! and top effort everyone else for going up in those conditions. Good to see some JD/epic steak action keeping it real 8)
Only realised from your photos that I passed WhoRya and Rumblebum today - sorry I didn't say hello lads, was deep in the zone all day!
-
Looks like a good one. I was sorely tempted but a quick look at the weather quickly persuaded me that a night on the Jameson's in Coyles would be far more appealing.
-
Big well done to Chloe & wee gaz,not very many nine year olds summit camp, she never complained once, double karma awarded :)

Glad you all had a good night, it was good to see a few friendly faces when we got up Bearnagh.
Only realised from your photos that I passed WhoRya and Rumblebum today - sorry I didn't say hello lads, was deep in the zone all day!
I didn't notice you in passing twenty, you probably went past in a flash. The "zone" was a crowded place yesterday ;D
-
Yep it was great to see so many friendly faces on Bearnagh (and you managed to stall whorya and rumblebum long enough for me to catch them), glad you were all packed up and ready to go as i would have been so tempted to sit and chat for half an hour, then my legs would have seized up :)
-
Funniest part of the whole night -
Oisin and I were only a few feet either side of the fire, - the wind blowing embers over my way pretty much constantly.
Spud dancing around my bivvy to this song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a4gyJsY0mc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a4gyJsY0mc)
"Danger, Danger high voltage - fire in the bivvy bag"
-
;D ;D ;D
-
I have bits missing in my stubble from where the embers hit me.
Time to shave I think.
Gonna get a stove with a remote gas connection that sits a bit more flat (primus omni maybe) - I was gutted when that lovely custard fell over.
-
I know I was gutted for yous, that was bad luck! I know it's not everyone's choice, but I find it hard to beat the trangia, it's never let me down, and it would be the very job for your curries, and as you have seen, it'll handle a steak too! ;D
