Title: Commedagh Camp
Post by: Mourneman on July 20, 2012
Eamon & myself joined Oisin & Ed on Commedaghs summit for an hour or so last night, with plenty of night navigation, pacing & timing along the way we reached the guys about 11pm where we sampled the joys of ed's hip flask & some chicken curry, crac was good but with eamon starting for work at 7am with dander back down along the ridgeline where we rejoined the forest & back down into donard park

Great stuff, Commedagh is a top summit to camp on as long as there isn't too much sheep crap.

Here's some pictures of the overnight process of the camp. It was calm up until midnight and it became a bit blustery with some heavy winds. The morning was misty up until about 10 and we stayed in our sleeping bags and just had a nice lie in.

Even though it was windy during the night, I was lovely and warm in my sleep bag.

Looks like you guys had a fabulous time

What was it like sleeping in the tower? I'm thinking about all the rubbish that's usually left there?
Title: Re: Commedagh Camp

The rubbish wasn't too bad to be honest. A few drinks bottles and some foreign branded pretzels.

I wouldnt say the shelter would be everyone's bed and breakfast, but it's just the aesthetics that would put you off. It's much cosier after you make a nice sofa out of two sleeping mats and get a powerful firelog going!

Love the photo of the firelog burning, that things a beast
Ah the sofa, epic idea

@ Oisin  Were you in a bivy bag?  Cool place to spend the night, if the wind is going the right direction!

Yeah, I spent the night in the bivvy bag in the shelter. The wind was thankfully going in the right direction and it wasn't too blowy during the night.

I had a cracker nights sleep tough, slept right through in comfort and warmth. The shelter was just like an old scrap of a car, doesn't look the best but does its job well.

So full marks for the Lamina then?

I haven't found a fault with it yet.

It doesn't fit too nicely into the sleeping bag section of my rucksack, but thats probably the rucksack as it packs down nicely.

Another nice video Oisin.
I've been finding that my blue 'winter' lamina is needed this summer too! Never had a bad night's sleep in it.

You can't really fault a bag that you've never had a bad nights sleep in. What Lamina number is yours Craig, the 20? 80?

the 20. It'll do me for -10 to +10  :)

Wee PHD minimus or something would be nice for adventure race type stuff, or dry/warm foreign camps, but the way our weather is this year can see the Lamina 20 being used for 90% of UK trips!
