Anyone know where I'd get an Irish Army Gortex DPM style jacket? Tried the internet a bit with no luck. Saw a guy wearing one at a music festival down south: looks quite good: rugged, well made, gortex seems good etc. Wondering where I'd get one? Any help welcome!

Depends how much you want (http://www.military.ie/army/join-the-army) one.
-
lol! :) I did have a laugh at that one... 10 years ago yeah sure... but these days the career options seem to revolve around boring things like pension plans and mortgages.
Incidently there's a little bit of trivia about the Irish Army: their largest single deployment ever (War or Peacetime) was for the filming of Saving Private Ryan (Omaha Beach Scene) followed closely by... wait for it.... The Battle Scenes in Braveheart :o
There are some pretty elite units still in the Irish Army. I've had the privilage to meet some of the guys from the Ranger Wing and they're a sharp bunch: equal if not superior to their counterparts in similar units in other countries.

and they all get public holidays off, so if youre going to invade ireland, make sure its a public holiday!!

Army Surplus Store in Smithfield dosen't do them... called in today :'(
Hunter: you thinking of selling yours? PM me if you're thinking of selling them!

Did they say why? There was a rack full of them last time I was in, though that was a year or more ago.

Know the ones you mean: there's a full rack of DPM British Army Gortex Jackets (I've owned two of these already... I'd recommend them: they're great)
The Irish Army ones are quite similar (Design, Pattern, cloth etc) with just a few slight differences. Essentially they're the same type of Army Surplus Jacket. I'm a bit of a nerd though and specifically want the Irish Army / IDF Jacket.
The guy in the shop said he had a few some time ago but they went fast and hasn't been able to get any more in. Apparently the supplier only supplies them to the Army and they're not too keen to flood the market with them as Army Surplus..... The search continues...... ???

There's an army surplus store somewhere around Ballymena (one of the villages close by - can't think of the name now - Glarryford I think.) or the surrounding areas.
There definitely is a surplus shop somewhere around here, but where is the problem. They might be able to help you out.

Nothing wrong with that 8)

:o :o :o :o :o
If you manage to buy one of these jackets you should be aware that if you cross the border down south and wear it you will be breaking the law. It is technically illegal to own Irish army uniform or kit as it is the property of the state and anyone caught doing so is liable for arrest!
If I were you I'd go for the French army goretex jacket, it has a similar camo pattern and is much easier (and cheaper) to obtain.
-
I'll keep it in mind but don't think it'll be a problem. I've a few get out of jail free cards down that neck of the woods from my Judo playing days ::)
Checked out the French Jacket there: looks the business. I'll continue my search tho: somehow the more ellusive it is the more appealing it becomes!
