Title: Hi! Planning a trip by cycle
Post by: PeeBee on May 29, 2012
Hi everybody!

I found this website so I thought I'd join as some of the info seems useful.

Having been a 'walker' all my life and sometime cyclist I've bought myself a new cycle and gear and I'm planning a round trip for the Jubilee Weekend. Belfast (where I live) to Comber, down to Delamont to camp, then across to Dundrum and camp at Rostrevor, from there up the Newry Canal towpath to Portadown and camp at Kinnego then across to Lisburn and the Lagan and Lough Cycleway back to Belfast.

Any comments on the route and campsites would be useful.

Welcome to the forum.

That sounds like a class trip your planning for yourself.  I had a mate Camped at Delamont at the weekend and had a blast.  I have done sections of that route all at different times.  All I would say is be extra careful on the main roads especially when you come off a tow path and havent had to think about traffic.  Also if the weather is like this allow a bit of extra time because when the towpaths/comber greenway is busy it can cut into your riding time.

Enjoy and please report back with pics and stories about your trip.

If your heading down past newcastle and planning to camp in Rostrevor, I recommend camping in Leitrim Lodge, its on the way in and easy access, free too.
I was there at the weekend, was brilliant with that weather! And I've cycled to it alot of times from Newry just to camp, gluck! :)
