Our wee club is going to Snowdonia next month.
I'm leading the Tryfan scramble, and plan to do Crig Goch as another day out.
All you need to do is join the YHAFWG club, which costs £8 (I'm the secretary) and get yourself to Wales on Saturday 12th May.

Weather dependant, of course. And nerve.  Couldn't be worse than The Cullin.

Thinking end of summer trip. May is just too soon for me. Anyone else up for an end of summer trip?

August sounds good, lots of planning time and good weather.

Stick me down!

If we were going, I think it would be wise, if not pretty essential to hire a guide. I'm not the only one thinking that am I?

Didn't Liam do it?

I haven't done Crib Goch but have walked the Pyg track below it.  I don't think a guide would be necessary at all, there are only two directions to go:  forwards and backwards.  I think the main problem (weather aside) with it could be the popularity of the route.

Weather dependant, of course. And nerve.  Couldn't be worse than The Cullin.

I don't think it is regarded as anywhere near as a bad as the Cullin, which requires ropes at some points and is a real challenge to do in one go.

I looked into getting a guide briefly there. 160 quid, surely thats for a group? But still, go with a guide you go in their time and they wanta get home. we can take our time ourselves. I would say if you dont think you can manage this now is the time to decide.

I would say you could just as easily say that you can manage it now and change your mind 5 minutes before attempting it. There are alternative routes close by, so I'd say decide on the day.

It may even come to it everyone would have to take the alternative route, because of weather conditions or something.

You'll not need a guide.

I've scrambled Crib Goch many times and I'd have no hesitation taking my 6 and 8 year olds over it provided the weather was calm.
It's a grade 1 scramble, but to be honest the technical scrambling involved is far less than that encountered on Tryfan north ridge (also grade 1).
If your balance is good then it's technically possible (but not recommended) to walk the ridge with your hands in your pockets. It really only gets it's grade in Ashton due to the exposure.
Just be careful on the choss on the final climb to the ridge and keep to the west side of the ridge (using the top as a handrail if needed).

The first time I walked this route was in good sunshine and I found it hard going. I did again in mist and I thought it was easier. I suppose the second time around, I knwe what to expect. Mind you, if I were to heve seen the youtube of Crib Goch, I wouldn't have done it. Don't know how he couls walk and hold a camera at the end of a stick. Thanks Mourneman for sharing the link from my facebook.
