because of those idiots, its giving the goverment more of a excuse to putting a ban in the forests.

On donard :-s around the living rock. So yeah - the side of donard. If this was him I'm going to beat his smarmy face in.

i think the fire is actually on chimney rock mtn, up the bloody bridge river area, but could well be on side of donard too, nowhere near the campsite, but lighting a campfire could be an issue!!!

I don't know if any of you are fimiliar with the Cooley mountains in Co. Louth. We are having the same prblem with fires. Slieve Foye, near Carlingford is completely destroyed as is some parts of the west side of the Cooleys.

Can anyone on here enlighten me about all these fires? I'm a city boy and don't have a clue! I've heard stories about farmers lighting the fires to stimulate growth or to get EU subsidies if there's no coarse on the land but don't know what to make of them. Is it just hoods doing this or is it something more organised? ???

its made the news now

Large gorse fire on Slieve Donard in Mournes
Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service members are currently at the scene of a large gorse fire in the Mourne Mountains in County Down.
The fire is high on Slieve Donard above Bloody Bridge.
No firefighters are tackling the blaze at the moment as it is not endangering any life or property.
A Fire and Rescue Service crew, however, is keeping watch on the situation.

Could anyone confirm where the fires are or have been as I had intended to lead a group up Donard on Sunday from Newcastle and down the Bloody Bridge side towards Chimney Rock.I'm a farmer as well as being a keen hill-walker like most on here and while I can't talk for all farmers it angers me to constantly hear this rubbish being being spouted about EU subsidies etc.
I don't know as does anyone else who started the fires but an educated guess from common sense and past experience on my own farm points 90% of the time to young louts(for want of a better word ) Who never did a days work on a farm or anywhere else in their lives and really don't understand or care about the harm and danger caused !

here's the daytime view (from downpatrick) to compare the fire location

It seems to me that when it makes the news, the problem only gets worse. We need rain.

It wasn't us!!!

Well had a good look at the damage done by the fire, truth told it vey limited, more like the size of a football field, where chimney rock meets farmland.
-
got a pic of some of the damage while on a wee dander up chimney rock this morning, donard on the left, crossone on the right, bloody bridge quarry at bottom of pic
