The Woman with Altitude weekend is on 20-22nd April in Gartan OEC, Donegal.
The glass ceiling of the corporate world may also be present in mountaineering. Although half of Mountaineering Ireland’s members are women, men tend to be to the forefront in the sport. For example we have fewer women on Mountain Leader courses, fewer women on the Board of Mountaineering Ireland and fewer women participating in climbing competitions, yet we know that women are capable leaders, decision makers and climbers. That’s how the Women With Altitude initiative was born.
The inaugural Women With Altitude event took place at Tollymore Outdoor Centre in April 2011, hosted by Mountaineering Ireland, in association with Gartan Outdoor Education Centre. The idea was to bring together women who share a love for the mountains, to encourage and inspire each other, through a weekend of activities and workshops. After two days of sunshine, smiles and skills-sharing, it was clear that this was just the beginning. Since then there’s been a women’s rockclimbing day in the Mournes and a winter mountaineering trip to Scotland. While attention now is on our second flagship event at Gartan OEC in April 2012, we also have a Women’s Mountain Leader programme in the pipeline.
Women With Altitude is part-funded by the Irish Sports Council's Women In Sport programme, an initiative to promote, encourage and support women's participation in sport.

I'm feeling very left out now.... :'( Maybe I can go as an exception, you know, to lift the heavy things and stuff ;D In all seriousness its good to see the outdoor world becoming a more level playing field. Hope this gets a good turn out.
