Title: Trangia test
Post by: Mourneman on March 14, 2012
Tried a little field test (kitchen counter) on my mini trangia this evening,it's being years since i used a trangia & i'am not sure if used the wrong fuel;(MANGERS methylated spirit),purple coloured, & it does say spirit burning fuel on it,boild  up some water & made tea, awful chemical taste from the tea.so wondering have i used the wrong fuel or is it just because it's inside the house, states on back of bottle irreversible effects through inhalation, oops :P :-Xany help would be great guys

U been drinking meths again John? Lol I have heard some people complain of a taste off the pots/kettle when using a trangia for tea but I have to say I have never found that? The meths u are using should be fine, uncoloured meths is great for the trangia but hard to come by! I would try an outdoor test, as the smell of the fuel may have made the tea taste funny? Just a thought!

if you keep the meths burner inside the pot it might have tainted the pot. Give it a good wash. also put a tiny bit of water in the meths, helps it burn cleaner. Here is a thread on the old argument....http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-19299.html (http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-19299.html)
