Title: Karrimor Sabre 45 Rucksack

I recently managed to be given a Karrimor Sabre 45 litre rucksack for free  ;D however it came without the side pockets that make it up to a 70 litre.

Was thinking of buying a few of the side pockets but before I did was wondering if anyone has used the model?

I googled it there and it looks the business but wondering if anyone would recommend it as a general rucksack?

Forum search may reveal some notes about it. There are definitely one or two members with the Sabre.

I used to own the 45 with the side pockets. It is certainly a bomb-proof sack and can carry silly loads with no fear of coming apart at the seams. It is a low/wide pack so good for forest areas.
I liked the side pockets as they were massive, making separating/accessing gear very easy. They also make the pack very wide which is not good for climbing, public transport, or moving around in any building (these are issues when you're travelling)!
The top of the main pack is also narrower than the bottom, which makes getting at gear a bit awkward, and it seems to 'fill-up very quickly' when packing.

Overall, it was too heavy for me (but not necessarily more than the average 70L pack) and not suited to the activities I was being drawn towards, but if you want a big sturdy bushcrafting pack then it is hard to beat! Without the side pockets would also be good as a strong mountain day/overnight pack.

Cheers for the advice.... had a wee play with it there and it seems to be the ticket. Ordered two new side pockets off Amazon and 10 mins later the guy who gave it to me phoned saying he'd found the original pockets! All good tho... I like the idea of having detached interchangable pockets, so say I've a geocaching one, a fishing one, camping etc, ... you can select the pocket for the activity already packed, zip up and away you go. I'll put a wee review on when I've field tested it for a while!
