Title: A weekend of pain and suffering. 28/29 April 2012
Post by: Rumblebum on February 27, 2012
While we were away this weekend, Typ0on, Whorya and myself got to thinking about an overnighter that involved something more than just climbing mountains, eating meat and drinking wine. ( hey this is the stuff that weve trained for).

At the end of april we have an idea for an overnighter that covers some less troden parts of the mournes, plans still have to be finalised but we are thinking of heading towards Percy bische cave, going in as far as we can and seeing if we can find the rest of craigys scalp  ;D

From there then we'l head back out and follow the path to cove cave, its not massive, its slimey and can be nerve wracking but climbing through the little hole to the summit is a recomended buzz.

If you still feel your up for a challenge after all that, then its take on the 'widow maker', the Devils coach road, and then back down for a camp and crack at the blue lough.

All of these things are in the same area so its not an overly long trek, the trips more of an opportunity to bag areas that are on peoples to do list, so if you fancy it we can maybe pencil a date in.

The way we'd be moving we'd definately look more like we are on the way back from 'the field' than on the way to it!

Hi Liam, woops, yeah it does look at fair bit like your idea lol.

I think it would be a good idea alright, it would be more of an activity trip rather than just a long plod.

Mourneman threw in the idea of a bit of climbing or absaling from cove mountain or lamagan slabs which could be interesting, i thought about the possibility of that on the sunday.

There seems to be a good bit of interest so hopefully we can get this arranged.

Photo's below of Peter who i'am hoping with be joining us for our camp in Annalong valley,Peter's an experienced climber & it would be great if he could pass some of his knowledge onto us,as long as he's back from Norway in time. I've asked him could he show some basic rock climbing, safety gear,& rope work

Post by: Kayakgirl on March 27, 2012
That's the weekend of Kerry and I'm away in Donegal. I'm free the weekend before if you fancy doing something
Title: Re: A weekend of pain and suffering.
Post by: LennyJ1 on March 27, 2012
I'll be free that weekend.
Title: Re: A weekend of pain and suffering.
Post by: Rumblebum on March 28, 2012
Yeah , i know it sorta clashes with a few other trips but im thinking it could be a good plan B for the ones that cant make Johns Kerry trip, there still seems to be quite a bit of interest for it and if anyone else is wanting to go we may just have to run with it.

I hope to come up and join yous for the camp, work permitting! What about camping in annalong wood? Plenty of firewood and it would be more sheltered than blue lough? Just a suggestion I'm happy to camp anywhere!
Title: Re: A weekend of pain and suffering.
Post by: Mourneman on March 29, 2012
Annalong wood is out of bounds at the moment, was last week anyway, something to do with this tree disease, there's signs at Carricklittle & the stile explaining, perfect wee spot if you follow the trek past the wood, then turn right,it's about a third of the way down the forest line ,above the river, stream
Title: Re: A weekend of pain and suffering.
Post by: Spud on March 29, 2012
This oul tree disease is causing some damage  :( we saw some amount of forestry cleared on our moyle way trip, there are a few good wee spots for a camp around the annalong wood area though
