Hi all, myself and Rumblebum are heading up this Friday night for a wee overnighter on Slieve Bearnagh. We aim to be leaving Meelmore Lodge at 8:30pm, making for the spot between the North and Summit Torrs. We'll probably be making the quick descent in the morning back down through Pollaphuca.
You're all welcome to join us, particularly suitable for those feard to stay up on their own ;) Drop a wee reply if you are up for it.
Weather is looking ok so far.

Its always the dates I cant make ::)
Hope you get the weather anyhow

LoL, now im going to sneak up at about 3am, shake your tent and make scary noises.
lol I was thinking the same think. We could make it a stealt night hike.
-
I'm tied up with a family birthday party, but its the in-laws so maybe i could leave early :-\ but i will more than likely not be in a fit state to drive never mind walk :)
-
Good stuff, what about you lenny, you up for this one?

ummmm (I am scratching my head). I would love to, how ever I am going to the pub after work for a couple (Not getting drunk (maybe). and I would need a lift at about 6pm if I was going.
So not in my favour im affraid. :'(
-
I'd love to but other plans have been made for me..sorta.
-
Lenny, if you want to go I can detour to Belfast and pick you up at 1900. But I need to be home early so we would need to be walking for 0800 for me to drop you off.
Cheers Dave. I will think about it and let you know. It may be a last minute decision (if you dont mind) as I have to go to this work do and it maybe good craic.
-
Good stuff guys, we seem to be of similar minds regarding a quick overnighter.
-
Just wondering what you guys are planning on eating? I'm torn between trying some dried stuff or something I actually want to eat lol but I don't want to be sitting eating cardboard while you dine on steak, it would be soul destroying :)
Keep the dried food for expeditions up everest... Quick overnighters have Steak and Scotch written all over them ;)
Sorry I can't join you all for the steak and scotch... My weekend with the kids I'm afraid :'(
-
Mmm sounds interesting although I've to work over the weekend with the youff..
-
If I was able to get down earlier I'd be more concerned about food. As it is I'm planning to eat my dinner at home and bring something light to eat up the hill. Noodles or something like that to fire a bit of hot water into.....with a complementary glass of wine of course. Torn between a bacon bap or porridge for breakfast. Nothing to get too jealous off anyway.
Feel free to bring your steak or whatever, I'll be the envious one!
-
These guys would be up all night! Start work at 9 on Saturday and then have a full day with the Poleglass, Lagmore cronies and then back again on Sunday..
Dam!! Will leave it this time.. :(
-

If you cant make it Liam, is it ok for us to stay overnight, I know that you have a love affair with this mountain. :D
-
;D ;D very good TypoOn & Lenny.
As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Rumblebum and I are hoping to be leaving Mallusk about 19:10 and heading straight to Meelmore. I'm reckoning we'll get set-off from Meelmore about 20:30.
I'll pm my mobile to Lenny, Liam, and TypoOn, so at least we can get in contact if needs be. I may just be on here again between now and then ;)

I may now have to drop one of the kids in Newcastle for 8am on Sat morning, that being the case i'll try and join you for breakfast, either on the summit or at Meelmore Lodge :)

I should have just stayed up then. As I was "in the area" lol. Great day in the hills with Mourneman and Mountain Goat. Now 45 mins kip and out on the rip.

Well we all made it back safe and sound.
Typo0n, whorya and myself set off from meelomore lodge around 9 oclock, we had planned for a sooner departure but spent some time trying to figure out why typoons rucksack was way lighter than ours, jammy begger!
We headed up the trasey track and through the boulder field to the hares gap, took a quick breather and hit the steps of bernagh and the long haul to the summit reaching the peak around 10 45.
we had it in our heads about camping at the summit so we would be waking up to the view of Doan and the silent valley reservoir but when we got up there was quite a stong wind so opted for having our site between the two torrs.
After getting the tents up it was light the firelog and neck the vino time, it was a great night with no rain and good clear sky's [ at times], think we stayed up to around 2 30 which might explain why i feel so busted now.
Woke up this morning, packed up the tents and started to head off, only to be chased by some crazy man called Liam, fair play to you sir for coming up, and directing us to meelmore for our sodas ;)
Im happy ive now done bernagh, i havnt capped enough summits so hope this starts the ball rolling for me this summer.
Typoon, whorya, cheers guys for a top night, if ive any good pics il get them loaded up shortly.

I just about managed to meet them this morning for a quick breakfast on the summit, they were just descending as i arrived at the top (thats one steep walk up from pollaphuca)

then i had to meet up with some relatives in tollymore for a wee charity walk they were doing, but i had to jog to catch up with them, and my legs were quite tired by then :( but i managed to find them :) i think i'll be sore tomorrow!

It was a cracker of a wee overnighter, a brilliant camp site with a great view to wake up to. Fair play to Liam for blasting up the next morning, perfect timing.
