The Mountains are great to get away from it all but, my favourite type of solitude is on a desserted island on Lough Erne. Using a canoe means i dont have to be light weight, so i can bring my chair, dutch oven and other bulky heavy stuff i would never put in a rucksack!
Four Elements Adventure will be running a competition on NI wild soon with a a guided trip on Lough Erne up for grabs.
Check out this video to find out a little bit more of what they have to offer.

Good write up Drongo, with the canoe you can really afford to take so much more gear to make your trip comfortable, although i think your still regret not havin the thermarest :)
