What were you thinking of Eugene?  Is it to get volume discounts/ to save on postage costs?

yes as some of the sites offer deals for ordering x amount of items or postage savings. i have seen this sort of thing on the "bushcraft" forum.

I don't think there has been a big lot of that nature that has happened in the past but I don't see why it couldn't be done.  I suppose it would have to start with someone needing something and may rely on a wee sprinking of goodwill for sorting out the order and money.

The problem that I think of is if your buying one item in bulk to get it cheaper. . . Is that everyone will need to agree on one specific item.

That soudns like it could be tricky.

In practice, I do not think there is a problem with the idea of group buys, but I would be cautious with money transfer and handling of goods when they arrived.

I think the problem with bulk orders is that given that everyone has their own personal favourite bits of kit it might be hard to think of items that everyone may want.

Last time I ordered from REI I got totally Mullered with customs and postal charges which soon negated any saving on the cost of items. Just a thought.

Understand that Matt. Just some of the US stuff you can't get over here.

I think its a good idea looking at essentials and things everyone could use, the only problem is I already have all my essentials, and I imagine most others do too.

Its a problem I find with Millets, they just stock everything I alread have.

IF anyone ever uses http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/ (http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/) then i'll be up for a group buy as sadly i only can order once a year having to save up for a huge order as postage is a killer over to here.

I was on ebay as usual and seen some noce looking canadian military gortex jackets.

The postage is a real killer and leaves it unrealistic to purchase.

Combined shipping is usually a saving.
