Title: Any New Years resolutions planned?
Post by: Al Fresco on December 26, 2011
Hey there,
Anybody got New Years resolutions planned for 2012, if so what are they?
Mine are not to break my ribs again lol, stop smoking again and get up the hills a lot more often. ;)

My only real plan is to try and get properly fit. I'd love to be in a position to consider the Mourne Mountain Marathon.

you'd have no bother doing that, not saying you'd enjoy it, but you'll get to the end ok  ;D

i reckon the MMM is as much about pack weight and you certainly know how to keep it light, so with some half decent navigation (to avoid walking unnecessary miles) you would cope ok

p.s. i'll be looking for a teammate if conor decides to challenge me  :)

We should organise a trial weekend where we do the previous years route and see how it goes.

i'm not going through that hell again  >:(  but maybe if we used meelmore as the campsite i could bear it, especially if there was a car parked there with a stash of liquid refreshment  ;)

doing the 7 7s would give you a good assessment for the MMM, true only 1 day and a lighter pack, but if you can do that then you can do the MMM (note: i failed the 77s but still did the MMM)

You could do it no bother mate. Just book it and go for it whats the worst that can happen  ;D

Walk round in circles getting lost in the clouds on day 2 in the rain. NO that was me last year! ;D

Great crack all the same.

My new years resolutions revolve mainly around running.
Take part in my first 5k race.
Continue 3 runs a week and build up to 10k.
Give up the booze for at least a few months.  (Though won't say no on rare nights out/special occasions!)
Keep active with the family.

Surely the 7 7s is significantly harder than the MMM? I think I might be able to do the marathon but am nowhere near the fitness to do the sevens.

i would say the 77s are a bit easier, i failed as i tried to do it too fast, but with the lighter pack, the much easier navigation, and the fact that there are plenty of plenty going in the same direction should make it more mentally bearable, often on the MMM you are alone (with a teammate of course) and a navigational error can see you well off course, so if you take your time and aim for 12-13 hours it might even be an enjoyable experience  ;D
