Post by: Mourneman on December 24, 2011
Need to get myself a new 60 litre rucksack, anyone recommend one, does anyone know if the Blacks,Millets,Cotswold's intend to have a new year sale.I was going to buy the Karrimor, bobcat 60 ltr from Millet's,reduced from 69 to 30,but they are out of stock, pity as i would have being able to get it for about 22 quid with the 25 percent off, millets say they will be getting more in the new year, but the price will prob go back to 69 quid .

i use the lichfield explorer 60+10 which i got for under £30 at argos  but they only have the 80 litre one now (currently at £40 but sales coming soon  ;)  ) , its tough, not too heavy, has pockets in all the right places and built in raincover

you could try sports direct in the town to see if they have the karrimor one

Hi John, I would try before you buy.... I got mine a few months ago in Jacksons. i was going to get berghaus one of the internet, but when i tried it on it was totally unsuitable. I was in Jacksons last week and they had some rucksacks on sale also.. anyway, hope you get sorted  :)
merry Christmas

Hi Mourneman I,ve had an Osprey Talon 44 for a couple of years now, i,m very happy with it. its light,  light enough to use for lightweight day jaunts. seems durable and super comfy. have had it loaded way past 44 litres for over night camps, with no bother .i,m sure they have bigger packs worth a look. Osprey know how to charge, but money well spent for me. Hope ya get sorted.  Also a friend told me Blacks are having a closing down sale!? :o

Blacks Leisure Group is the parent company of both Blacks and Millets, with brands such as as Eurohike, Peter Storm etc.  It would seem certian they are on the brink of adminstration.  The company has been up for sale and according to a recent statement from their board, it

"does not have and does not now expect to receive an offer for the shares of Blacks Leisure".
Source (http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/dec/23/blacks-la-senza-head-administration)

Likely that the plug will be pulled after the Christmas trading has finished (the most value in current assets), then it will enter administration and be sold in whole or parts to folk who are watching it keenly.  The worst performing parts of the group or stores etc may be let go by the wayside.

I got this in TK Maxx for £30 a few months back, a cracking rucksack for the money.

I heard that Sports Direct were in talks to buy Blacks.

Cotswold have serious reductions on Deuter bags if they take your fancy.

I'm really taken with the Osprey Talon 44 but it's soooo much money  ??? I really like the zippered pockets on the hip belt, the pockets on the shoulder straps and the stow away feature for poles  :)
No other bag in that size has those  :-\

The other plus is it looks big enough for an overnighter but small enough for a daypack and picnic  ;D

Do I sound like I'm talking myself into this?  :o  :D

Is it the 33 that you have?

It sure is, it is a great pack. If you want to borrow it to try it out you are more than welcome.

That would be awesome. Might help convince the missus of its greatness  ;D

Shame you can't make it tomorrow  :(

I'm currently using a Trespass Circul8. It serves a purpose but is a bit weighty and lacks any 'features'.
