A army buddy I have has offered me some kit,FOC,includes gaiters, packs,& a bivi bag as well as coats, trousers,of course I'am delighted, question is are these bivi bags any good,as I was considering purchasing a bivi.HE says it's the goretex one, anybody got one?

They are a great bit of kit, lots of room inside. I have recently changed mine for an Alpkit one to save a bit of pack weight and packing size.

They are brillant.

very happy with mine, but never tried any others, what are you doing looking a gift horse in the mouth anyway ;D

I have one and it's nice and roomy, haven't used it in serious rain but it's been waterproof to date. Bit heavier than the likes of the Alpkit Hunka or Rab Storm but only because it's bigger.

As regular users of the site know 99% of my kit is Army Issue. I have the Gaiters, Water Proof Jacket and Trousers and the Bivvy Bag.
All excellent kit so take everything he offers you. I've been in the Army Bivvy Bag in torrential rain, lying on waterlogged ground and not a drop of water gets in. Bit heavier than the Gucci Gear but very roomy and extremely practical.
Here's my kit from last year... Not too many changes to be honest. I love my set up :D

I always thought the waterproof jackets looked like good value. £50 for Goretex is value.
