I am looking for a light weight tent with atleast 3000mm head. Good find wild camper,looking for Something like this myself,really gotta cut down on the weight i'am carrying,noticed that the bivi stated it was a trim fit,also that for another tenner you could buy the extra large version,then you could bulk up underneath if cold weather,let me know if you buy these

plenty of chat about the alpkit hunka on the forum, just do a search on the word "hunka" and you'll see ( http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=search2 ) personally i'd buy a used army goretex one, you can always sell it for roughly what you paid for it if you don't like it, but i've never tried the hunka
the coleman tent looks ok for that price, but if your going to spend decent money then try a few tents out next time we're camping and see what you like, can you really cope with a lack of headroom to save a bit of weight? do you prefer side or front opening? if using it for 2 people you might be better with a 3 man tent, makes life easier with our weather. Also some shops have tents up in store, e.g. cotswolds and decathlon, if you find a tent you realy like then keep an eye on ebay for a used bargain, so many people use a tent once then sell it because they didn't spend enought time researching it and bought the wrong one, or they just hate camping ;D

the tent i used at the weekend was a gelert rocky 2 with only a 1500mm head, i've used this on quite a few very wet nights and its never leaked on me, despite having some duck tape repairs, good strong wee tent but a bit on the heavy side at 3.6kg and i've never had (or want) more than 1 person in it.

That Coleman has got 257cm internal length, perhaps something that would even fit me. :) Good find. Tempted.

I went from the army bivvy bag to the Alpkit xl so I could get my Thermarest inside with me, best decision ever. For me it just packs smaller and the material seems softer. Do not get me wrong the army bag is bombproof and will not let toy down.
A mate of mine used the Coleman 2 man tent while on expedition and it seemed to do the business so I would rate it highly. At 2.3kg, it is not the lightest but you would spend another £100 removing a further half kilo from similar tents. Replacing the pegs and the lines would shave the weight if it were that much of an issue.
Keep an eye on Gumtree, there are real bargains to be had on there. Take a look at the Mountain Hardware Sprite.

I've had a Cobra 2 for about 8yrs now. Brilliant tent, and my main issues with it appear to have been resolved by the slight redesign:
- now pitches outer first
- goes lower to the ground at the sides
- lighter - 2.3kg is the boxed weight, says the tent is about 2kg now, mine is more like 2.4
Double side entry is great when sharing. It's not huge, but is ok really. Some nice pockets including on roof ridge, and internal tension cord to take up slack on the long inner slope. Very wind and water resistant. Pitches great when you know how.
Can stick mine up in the garden if anyone wants a gander.
If you don't like the new version, I'll buy it off you for £30 ;D

all my tents are front entry but i reckon the side entry is probably more beneficial, any disadvantages to this?

Porch space is also split so not big: Bags cannot always get in, and there may be more re-arranging to get in and out.

Just a cautionary note on the new Cobra...like twentyclicks i had one of the 'older' ones and found it to be fabulous...but I recently ordered a job lot of the two and three man cobras for my boys brigade and promptly sent them back as the inner and outer are virtually inseperable - and I for one do not enjoy a wet night's sleep!....for that kinda money, and with a bit of hunting, I'd go for the Vango Banshee instead (which is what we ended up getting for our lads as well)
And the Hunka XL is on my shopping list too!!

Just a word about tents and hydrostatic head: the industry standard for waterproofness is 1300mm and so a HH of 1500mm for the fly is just fine however a HH of 1500mm is on the distinctly low side for a ground sheet because the pressure exerted when kneeling on it will force water through it. 3000mm is probably as low as you would want for a tent floor.
As for the Alpkit Hunka, I have the XL and it is fine for what it is. With bivvying as with tenting, the amount of condensation inside depends on the conditions outside.

I've just ordered myself a Coleman Avior X2, £55 reduced from £119 on Amazon, a smaller pack size than the Cobra and a higher HH of 4000mm but is slightly heavier at 2.45kg, looking forward to testing it out.

By looking at the review video clip of the Cobra 2, It looks to me like there is good separation from inner and outer.

Thanks for finding that Wild Camper... yeah, I wouldn't say that was terrible; pretty average really. Wouldn't put me off.
They've also made the sides of the inner more solid which will help comfort in the wind (combined with the lower outer). I sometimes have to build windbreaks of gear in the old one as it ventilates a little too well.

Last year i got myself a vango tempest 200
It has a 5000 hydro and is about 2.8 kg
I got it after spending a night in a Banshee 200 which is a great wee tent and a good bit lighter ,but not much room for kit especialy if there is 2 people
The vango has a good sized poarch area for cooking if the weather turns nasty or for keeping wet gear seperate at night.
But like all 2 man hiking tents is at its best with with one adult one child .
Also the leg room is good as i am about 6ft and never had any issues ,you can also sit up at the highest point when changing, all important points in this climate of ours.
