I bought their Windbreak for £3ish in Carrick about a month ago ;D
Not sure how good it will be but I love a bargain. At worst I'm sure it could be modded as a tarp of some kind ;D
Like this http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-0258.aspx
Very interested in those Micro Lite bags; thanks guys! It says it has a comfort rating of +13.2°C to +16.3°C and an extreme rating of +1.7°C. I'm guessing that would suffice for most reasonable conditions?? Maybe add a liner?
-
Just ordered two bags; pick them up on Tuesday ;D
It would have been rude not to :D
Thanks guys!
-
Good call guy's,I bought two too,had too ;D

Windbreaks are not waterproof. I have learnt this from experience,

This one is 'made of grey polyester tenting material'
No actual waterproof rating but for £3 I thought it was worth a go.

I'll maybe get it out of the bag later to get a proper look at it.
I wonder if the £25 tent can still be found in store ??? Definitely worth a look if you're passing. Although they're probably cutting way back on camping stuff on the run up to Christmas. What sort of person would go camping at this time of the year?? :o ;D
-
Tesco at Springhill in Bangor still have the tents. I would read the reviews on the tesco site before buying. ;)
-
£150 down to £25 and a tescos brand...
fancy buying a lb of onions from a camping shop lol.
-
Just picked up my two bags from Carrick ;D
Strange thing is they have them on the shelf at full price ???
Thanks for the info guys :)
Edit: the big tent appears to be back in stock :)

Sorry for not answering sooner, perhaps you already have yours (mine arrived this morning)
Yup, double up in the really cold (that goes for any sleeping bags...why blow a tonne of cash on a expensive bag just for really cold weather than you can use two cheaper ones) No idea about the minimum temperature, defiantly below freezing since I've had ice form on my bivvy bag on a couple of occasions. Only time I've woken up code was on Commedagh Summit when I pushed my feet under the tarp during the night :) Because they are soo cheap I've no worry about ruining them by jumping straight into it with my walking trousers on if I'm desperate, just throw them in the washing machine when I get back home..
As for size, may I introduce the new international standard of 1pt milk carton and value spaghetti:

It's like a lot of cheap kit, it's never going to compete with the high end stuff (and if Santa's good to you and you buy the expensive stuff you probably wont want to go back), but in most cases it's "good enough".

cheers for the reply chuck, I didnt get my order in, will have to see if they are on offer in the future! :(
-
I ordered one of the tents for a guy on another forum, he's from the south and couldnt order it himself, just picked it up from tesco and it has holes in the fly(the box was damaged but the bag the tent was in wasn't....) just to let anyone that bought one know so they can check it thoroughly. :(
I’ll be picking mine up tomorrow, I will make sure to check and report back.
-
My two sleeping bags arrived yesterday, quite surprised at how small they pack away, think i'll have to use both of them, but for a tenner you can't really argue
-
A 6 man tent!

I took one of mine out to check it out. It sure is thin but then as you say pack really small :)
Either two needed for colder weather or just keep until summer ;D Must keep an eye out for a liner on offer now.
Edit: just found a fleece liner for £2; again at Tesco.

The reviews for the tent are very funny, what you expect for £25.
-
Sleeping bags are back in, still under Chuck's original link. I'm now upgraded to a 4 season sleeping bag system :)
-
So funny, the sleeping bags £4.40.......... think you could use them to keep warm in bed, under your quilt.
Your all mad bargain hunters ;D
(I am only messing, please do not think I am attempting to be a kit snob)
-
I've got an old but warm army sleeping bag but it is certainly not compact :o
I primarily got these bags for me and my son for next summer :) I do like Chuck's use & abuse policy; makes perfect sense ;D
For the minute they'll stay in the boot of the car; just in case ;) ;D
-
2 lite bags and liner for £12!!! pick them up 3 days later,, result!!!!!(wot with the pro action tent, its gonna be fun some time soon!!!)

Yep, i have one of those bags as well, takes up most of the room in my rucksack, so just ordered a new comfort sleeping bag and fleece liner, £7.20 in total and collect them on wednesday, nice to have a new bit of kit :)
Cheers to all the forum members for mentioning these bargains.
-
I already have a microlight sleeping bag and its great, just ordered 2 comfort mummy bags and another micro, for less than £20 amazing value, I priced the comfort mummy bag in Bentrim rd last night it was over £25 in store.
-
Just for anyone still after the bags they have dropped the prices again. The mummy microlite is now 4.40, the mummy comfort is 5.20 and the fleece liner is now 2.00. Picked up all three using a tenner of clubcard vouchers and got change from a fiver, can't ask better really.
-
Think that's what they were Rich. I picked my two fleece liners up yesterday ;D
Wonder why they didn't reduce them in store as well ???

When I was picking up my Microlite in the Glengormley store I noticed that they were £10 on the shelves.
-
Tried to buy a few more of the mummy comfort bags for xmas pressies, but alas out of stock now. :(
-
Anyone know what sorta size does the mummy comfort bags go down to?
-
Here's a photo of the Tesco comfort mummy sleeping bag and fleece liner beside a 2 litre carton of milk for size comparison.
-
so tell me, how crap is the stuff from tesco's?
-
I sense a loaded question :o
-
so tell me, how crap is the stuff from tesco's?
the stuff i've got so far is good value for money even at full price, although i didn't buy the tent, just 2 tins of beans and a loaf of bread, i know, you think i've overindulged, but hey, its christmas :)
-

What items have you bought that you feel weren't value for money? It means others can avoid making the same mistake.
-
All the camping gear has gone back up in price again :(
so tell me, how crap is the stuff from tesco's?
The value 6p custard powder is a hills dessert winner!! ;D
Asda's 6p custard powder is also quite exceptional ;D

I have to warn you I got this windbreak during the summer and took it back for a refund. The poles are too flimsy and broke the first time i put it up. For £3 it's not bad but just be aware!

I finally got round to putting up the Tesco 6-man tent (or the giant slug as my kids referred to it). Reckon I need a bigger garden!
I forgot to take a picture of the inside. Basically the grey centre section is living space with a bedroom on either end. Looks like a great job for dipping-the-toe-in for a bit of family camping. When I say "dipping-the-toe-in", I really mean my wife joining the rest of the family.
