Title: Xmas Wish List
Post by: dean1970 on November 24, 2011
So, if you have been good this year, your partner is going to ask 'what do you want for xmas'?

So, if asked, what is the answer?

New tent, pack, bag, cooking equipment, clothing?
Actually looking for some suggestions here  :-\

1/4 zip long sleeve thin merino base layer (with thumb loops for extra points)... would be my choice in that situation. Mine has probably been worn half of my life for the past few years, getting ratty despite repairs. Got it for £30 back at the time, new ones seem expensive despite the cost/use being so low!
Non-outdoor women understand fine knits and clothes easier than awesome technical stuff  :)

I'd always aim for quality stuff like that, that irrationally I would begrudge buying myself. Like, £300 for a pair of boots or ice axes wouldn't bother me a bit, but £15 socks or £70 gloves... very grateful prezzy.

Luxury chocolates come to mind too... or a food dehydrator... she might love that - a chance to give a man a plastic kitchen appliance for a change - flip the stereotype  ;)

my wife would be happy with that, then she'd have a great excuse not to go   >:( but i sure i could fit her in one of the other 10 tents  ;D

there was a thread like this last year, can't find it though, be interesting to see if we're still asking for the same stuff

Nothing big on my list this year, not that it doesn't add up though.  I want a new compass and a merino (or similar) base layer for those days out that are a wee bit nippy.

good comments, quite varied requests or wishes

took a walk around Cotswold over lunch for suggestions and ideas. Some nice looking clothing. Quite an expensive place but i think they offer a price match for anything.

Even thinking id like a pair of gaiters lol who knows why

Anyway starting to say to her that that would do, that would do, that would do............come out with nothing.

Lost my compass, so need a new one
Need base layer clothing, socks and gloves, i reckon thats what i am getting.

THE NAVS WERE HUNDREDS SO THATS DEFINATELY A NO GO

Amongst other views it appears that Christmas has become a time of buying things for people that they don't like, don't need and don't want and you can't afford to buy anyway.  Therefore I believe that presents should be what the receiver wants/needs as opposed to to what the giver believes it should be.

On my list is/was:-

Jetboil stove, (saw one one on ebay and bought it),

gaiters, as existing two pairs have just about given up.  Have been looking at a pair on 'tinternet and might just go for them.  They can be wrapped up anyway.

gillet, don't have one, don't think I need one, but just would like one!

one of them multi tool things.  Must have the pointy thing for getting stones out of horses hooves. ;D

new and better walking poles.  Could I stretch to a pair of Leki's?

and some of them merino wool undies.

a selection box. ;)

probably be told to just go and get what you want for yourself. :D

It seems kinda bad when you just do that and then don't even bother to exchange the money.

i like the sound of the austrian goretex jacket.

Yep, i was asked if i just wanted money on my paypal account. Seemed a good idea, but sorry, just seemed wrong.

I do agree though that its much better to ask for what you want rather than getting something you dont really need.

Lets face it, this stuff is all very expensive kit!!!!!
