Title: Waterproof jacket advice
Post by: Spud on November 22, 2011
Am for purchasing a new waterproof coat, have a strict budget of £90, Ideally would like something with a bit of warmth to it, but the windproof waterproof element would be more important, any suggestions anyone?

simple answer...TKMAXX

theres always loads of outdoors coats from the likes of regatta and tresspass, i recently picked up a down filled coat for 70 quid which was a steal.

cheaper than millets, blacks or the other `outdoors` shops in belfast.

theres also the outlet stores like antrim and banbridge.

how about a cheap gortex army jacket?

I'm guessing you wish to get a bit of all round use out of the jacket since you have indicated you want something with a bit of warmth.

I've really gone the other way with that, I don't want my waterproof to provide any warmth, preferring to 'control' that with the other under/over layers I wear or carry.  That said we are all different, there are times when I am only in a base layer and have met others who seem happy to walk in their waterproof coat.  The extension of that of course is that I generally don't wear my waterproof coat anywhere other than the hills, wearing a casual coat for a bit of warmth.

Sorry, don't want to take your thread too far off course into another layers debate.  If you got a jacket with a zip-in fleece then it could prove versatile for you.

Thanks whorya, the jacket isn't just for the hills, I would want it for everyday use in the winter too, I was thinking along the lines of a coat with a zip in fleece myself, it would be more useful for me I think. And pablo thanks for the tk maxx tip, will have a look there and see what they have!

HI,

Craghoppers Aquadry - waterproof/windproof Jacket (and a free Craghoppers fleece) available at Regatta in the Outlet @ Banbridge.

Costs £49.99.

Not much warmth but you can always wear the free fleece!

I bought the Bear Grylls made by Craghoppers waterproof coat in tkmaxx during the summer for £50 or something.

Good coat, but it hasnt really got any warmth, the only warmth is from the wind protection it offers.

I think there is still some left in the one in Ballymena.
