Who fancies grabbing some heavy duty bin bags and heading down for a bit of a tidy up?
(a bit of back story for those who have just joined us: It's been noticed (http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2615.msg27685#msg27685) that the Lough Shannagh area has got messed up.)

I'd be up for that, what we need though is a 4x4 to get up the track to load up with rubbish, if the place is given a thorough clean i reckon people will be less inclined to litter (litter creates more liiter), i wonder if National Trust would supply a 4x4 and trailer, don't think its their patch but they might help.
-
A proper 4x4 or a girly off roader like the wifes?

Sorry Chuck, I would have been up for this on a Sunday but work are now doing Sunday opening until Christmas.
-
Chuck, if you're thinking of doing this on Saturday I'm 99% certain I could go, as long as I'm home for 6pm as I've a dinner to go to in the Pheasant. ;D If it's on the Sunday I've an airport collection run to do so I couldn't go. :( Pm or call if you wish.
-
(was hoping to post this in reply to Liam so no one feels pressured)
Just keep it simple (as a starting point): Three people, Three bin bags, Three hours.
I'll throw a shovel, yard brush and bucket onto the back of my ruck.
Meet at Banns Road, up to the shelter, grab a bite to eat, throw a couple of buckets of water around the shelter then fill up the bin bags with rubbish from there and the camping spot. Back down Banns Road and drop the rubbish off at the local dump.

I'm at a wedding. Boy would I swap ::)

I brought my wife's discovery up as far as the gate before, VERY bumpy, but that's as far as i've been up the Banns Road, never even walked it, so don't know what its like beyond the gate.
-
surfnscenic and myself are heading up Saturday morning, exact time to be confirmed. Anyone else free?
-
depending on times, I could possibly make this chuck, do u have a rough time?
-
Cheers redspud, I've no major plans for the day and surfnscenic's got a hot date at 6pm ;D so I can't see why we couldn't be flexible. What you thinking about?
-
I've split the topic as its gone a bit tangental :)
I hope to attend but will have a few kids in tow so will be very weather dependant, might have to bribe them with an hour at Coco's afterwards.
-

About 9am? I will have Mrs redspud with me too for an extra pair of hands! I have a litterpicker thing knocking about that I will bring also. What is the carparking situation at banns road? Theres a car park on the map, but its not somewhere I have have parked before, and its years since I even walked up the Banns road, am looking forward to getting out, hope the weather is clement! ;D
-
I'm time flexible, so 9am fine for me.
There is parking for about 10 parked cars (pic of car park (http://g.co/maps/qseqq)). It's not a very tough walk along Banns Road, a little bit uppity-down in places (it's but no mad hills. (some into about the walk (http://www.sixgolds.com/shannagh.htm))
Yup, bring your litterpicker thing along, I'm going to pick (boom boom!) a couple up locally as well, save the old back.
-
good stuff chuck, hope to see u guys on sat, looking forward to getting out in the fresh air!!
-
I would have liked to do this too but i've got my ML training this weekend.
-
Everyone still good for tomorrow?
I've got bags and some gloves. Will hit B&Q tonight to pick up a wee shovel and other stuff.
Here's my mobile: (snip) (alternative: (snip)) I'll also have a radio with me on Channel 6.
-
all good to go chuck, looks like it might be a damp one! :)
-
Excellent.
Looks like we're going to be on the bottom of the Banns Road early doors (9am), if anyone else is kicking about Lough Shannagh later in the morning give us a shout :)
-
I was hoping to squeeze this trip in but hasn't worked out :( have to take the kids irish dancing so i can get next weekend off :)
-
Guys, well done and fair play to you for giving up your morning to go and do this. Hope you have a good time and il raise a glass to you when im at the beer festival :)
-
Good on you's. I would liked to have helped, but have to work.
-
Four people, four bag, five hours (well bit more perhaps).
Many thanks to Spud, Mrs Spud and George for coming along. Rain stayed away, fog closed in, not too bad a day at all.
Pics to come.
-
We had a great time, some random rubbish up there, everything from a buckfast bottle to an abandoned boot! And it's sole in a separate location! I got some pics too, will stick them up later! Looking forward to getting back to the banns road on a clearer day, it's a lovely walk!

Was a fruitfill days work. :) Plenty of rubbish recovered from the northern shore camping area of Lough Shannagh where I had camped last week 12 November. There were signs that some other person(s) had camped there since.
Rubbish was also removed from the concrete hut at the Lough and it was given a sluice out with water and a bit of a scrubbing. On the homeward route we continued to lift any rubbish we found.
As we walked the bags got heavier and heavier. :( Chuck suggested we employ the help of some locally sourced mules/donkeys or even horses from the equestrian centre at the start of Banns Road should we do this again. Good idea. ;) They could take us up first! ;D
Nice to meet Mr and Mrs Redspud (Stephen and Catriona). Thanks to Chuck for agreeing to dispose of the bagged rubbish and for the lift. Finally thanks to Bow the dog for the ooooh and aaahhhhh performance. :)
-
Excellent job guy's things like this really are rewarding and it is good to see. Sorry I could not make it down, I had other commitments. I hope that when others see that the place is clean it makes them think twice about leaving their rubbish all over the place.
-
It was only whilst there, and obviously too late that we thought it would have been a nice charitable act to bring your tents and stuff with us, set everything up, unroll the sleeping mat, get your sleeping bags fluffed up so you could enjoy a little bit of turnkey camping! ;D
-
I like the sound of turnkey camping but the thought of leaving my kit up there for some scumbag to steal is a bit off-putting however if you were feeling super generous you could have taken a frontier stove and kept us nice and warm.

Emmission levels permitting this could be the answer to waste disposal whilst providing heat and even an option for cooking. Win, win, win!
