Title: Bushcraft Course
Post by: NI Survival School on October 21, 2011
Hi All,

After consultation with NI Wild Admin, NI Survival School are excited to be able to offer a 20% reduction (normal price £50.00 for 1 day course) to all NI wild members on our bushcraft course on 13th November 2011!  For this price you will get 1 night camping out under the stars in one of our fantastic private woodland locations. This will be followed by a full day of private tuition by our Bushcraft instructors who will take you through many of the aspects of outdoor wilderness living. At this time of the year in our climate this will be a challenging day, incorporating fire, shelter, wild food knife work and much more. I guarantee you will leave us exhilarated with a sense of achievement and a new collection of skills to incorporate into your outdoor activity toolbox. This would make a perfect early christmas present for yourself or the special person in your life and at a not to be missed price.

Due to the climate nature, this is an adults only course and is restricted to 10 persons on a first come first served basis  If anyone is interested please contact our team on the below email address  for booking and payment details quoting your adding your ni wild username. Kit list and exact location will be emailed to all persons when full payment has been received. All our courses are run from an expedition style camp with FULL permission to use the land and resources including fire lighting etc. The one night camping is restricted to 12th onto the 13th when the course will begin. Allocation of camping will be from 17.00hrs on 12th Nov. Course will end at 17.00hrs on 13th Nov.
This is an exclusive offer secured by the NI Wild Admin team and isnt open to non NI wild members.

As much as I'd love to go I'm already fully booked that weekend!  Hopefully next time...  Thats a great offer though for anyone that is interested.  Kat and I learnt so much in the space of an afternoon, it would be great to get a full day with an overnight sometime to put it all into practice :)

Title: Re: Bushcraft Course

£40 (20% off £50) Pretty good considering most 2-day weekend courses on the mainland are £200+, means this 1-day is less than half the cost. I need the refresher, and a good excuse to camp the night somewhere different.

Hi there,

Am new to the bushcraft/fieldcraft side of things and was wondering whether there was any spaces left on this course?

I would not be available for the stay over on the Saturday, but could hook up with y'all on Sunday?

Any ideas whereabouts it would be?

Thanks!

Hey guys, is anyone heading down the Sunday morning?

Ideally, I'd like to scrounge a lift please.

Was going to camp, but I don't finish work on Boucher Rd until 5:45 on the Saturday and the meet up is at 5:00. Are there any other late people? Maybe we could work something out there, but don't want to give the lads hassle on their Saturday night.

Time to hoke out the paracord, proof the boots, and sharpen the knife  :D

I fear I may have failed the course even before it's started: I dug my wee Mora out...she's in a bad way, carbon steel all corroded and non too sharp...poor wee girl's not ever had anything tougher than a packet of bacon in a long while. If someone can bring a sharpening steel along I would be very grateful.

I had to buy some paracord from greenman bushcraft and ended up buying a "Frosts Mora Bushcraft Training Knife" no idea if it will do but it says bushcraft and training in title so sounded good .

Looking forward to this and a night under the clear sky's

I have a Fallkniven DC4 stone I'll be bringing; diamond on one side, ceramic on the other. Like this http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/fallkniven-dc4-combination-sharpening-stone-3986-p.asp

I do have paracord somewhere but just can't find it  ::) Plenty of odds that equal 30ft+ though  ;D

You can glue wet & dry paper to flat bits of wood, say a 600 and a 1200 for finer. Bit of water or WD40. Works if you don't have a sharpening stone!

Hello all,

Glad to see the preparations for Sunday coming on well.

You cant go wrong with a Mora knife. We use them ourselves a lot of the time.

Corroded Mora. Get yourself some really fine steel wool and give it a good rub over with that. For sharpening you could get a ceramic chefs sharpening rod from IKEA, cheap and excellent. The DC3/4's are excellent and i use one myself.

Mouse mat works well but you can end up with a convex grind if your not careful as the paper can bend around the edge as you strop it.

Weather-Looking good for Saturday and Sunday. If it rains we will still be going ahead. It will be more challenging of course, but in challenge there is achievement.

Any other questions please email us.

Thanks

Andy

Cheers will do.

The rains been bouncing in Larne for the last couple of hours, I'm sure it will be all blown out by tomorrow. ;)

I'll be up before 9pm hopefully. Weather's looking to blow over tomorrow  :)

If someone can give me (and my bike - wheels can come off) a lift back to Belfast on Sunday eve would be much appreciated. I'll be knackered by then, and too much to get done for Monday to be waiting around for Sunday buses!

Slightly OT but just getting packed and noticed a couple of things I have that I'm not using.

Anyone coming on the course want them?

Used German Mess Tins (http://www.flecktarn.co.uk/flbkg1ux.html) Never used by me but some dents.

Honey Stove (http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/product397.asp) -only used once and to burn tea lights (don't ask!)

Go System Mini Lite (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0014W7R2M/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=ni-wiid-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0014W7R2M) Never used
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41bltT7FRiL._SL500_AA300_.jpg)

Not selling them as such, just don't want/need them so if anyone wants them just give the Mourne Rescue a wee donation (link in signature) (the North West Mountain Rescue team (http://www.nwmrt.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=132&Itemid=28))and it's yours.

There were some interesting spoon carvings on the go when I arrived, nice fire, great nights sleep in the bivvy.
Fun day of eating leaves and making various fires... well, I could only use a bow-drill - had no luck whatsoever with fire-steel or matches!  :D

The guys know their stuff, and it was surprising the amount of resources available in such a small patch of woodland. Real eye-opener.

Many thanks to Scribble for the lift home just there, and obviously Andy & Paul for the course!

I'm sure folks will be along with more tales and photos.
