Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile has welcomed today`s announcement that City Hall will play host to a massive outdoor concert as part of the MTV EMAs next month.
Northern Ireland`s very own Snow Patrol will appear on stage as will chart-topping US singer-songwriter Jason Derulo and US rock trio Boyce Avenue as the awards are held across three venues for the first time, with the third venue to be announced closer to the date.
Around 15,000 people will now have the opportunity to be part of the biggest event ever to be staged in Belfast when the iconic venue of City Hall becomes the backdrop for a free outdoor gig on Sunday, November 6, coinciding with the MTV EMA ceremony taking place at the Odyssey Arena.
Tickets for the concert are free and will be available from the Belfast Welcome Centre, Donegall Place, from this Sunday, October 16 at 8am.
Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile said: “This event is just getting bigger and bigger and the excitement is really starting to build; there`s a real buzz around the city. I`m delighted that City Hall has been chosen as one of the stages for the MTV EMA event. It`s the city`s most iconic building and with 600 million people around the world tuning in to watch, what a great opportunity this will be to showcase Belfast and all that it has to offer.
“The additional funding given by Belfast City Council and the NI Tourist Board has made this event possible. Due to the global nature of the awards event at the Odyssey Arena, demand for tickets is exceptionally high and so the additional show at City Hall was our way of ensuring that as many people as possible can be part of this once in a lifetime event.
“It has also allowed us to make this event free so people will have the opportunity of seeing some of the biggest musical stars in the world here, on their doorstep. This is fantastic news for the city and I think today`s announcement will generate even more excitement about the upcoming awards.”
