My interest in mushrooms is growing exponentially this month, they seem to be everywhere i walk now, i think i may even start picking them to eat :o so are there any good books describing the local varities?

Anything I've ever heard about mushrooms could be summed up in one sentence:
If your not an expert, stay away from them.

I've been on several fungi identification courses/forays over the years...
Again, echoing what Oisin said...
If you want to eat mushrooms, buy them from Tesco's...!!!
I've a photo somewhere, table 2-3 times bigger of the ones you couldn't eat compared to the ones you could eat after a foray around Crom Estate last August...

Dowser has a book and I think he thought it was very good. We did a "Fungus Walk" through one of the forests outside Holywood were we were shown different mushrooms and given info on what was good to eat. Can't remember who organised it, Simon, Dowser and Suspectmonkey were there too, maybe they'll know.

That has jogged my memory! It was the NIFG and what we went on was called the "Fungal Foray".
