Title: perfect picnic site
Post by: LandyLiam on August 31, 2011
This ones for redleader, I know how much he loves to hear when I'm in the mournes when he's stuck behind a desk  ::) sitting on bearnagh summit having tea and sandwiches with the gentlest of breezes to keep the midges away, another perfect picnic spot. Apart the the army chopper buzzing round the mournes to spoil the silence, actually its nice to watch, he's been hovering round most of the mountains for the last hour, must be a new pilot getting familiar with the terrain and landing spots, either that or he's planning his weekend hike  ;D

If its any consolation 2 flies have just drowned in my teacup while I was typing this  >:(

Nope, its my favourite (first mourne mtn I ever climbed), I think it was matt that hated it, but I think he hates every mountain  ;D

It's a steep old climb. Great spot for a summit camp though.

Definitely looked like they were practising each summit to see where they could land if they had too, when i was a lad  ::) i think all the rescues were done by army helicopter, used to love watching the wessex land near my house in Downpatrick all day when the mourne wall event was on, they would drop them (not literally) in the school field and pass the casualty to ambulance there for onward transport to the down hospital

i've spotted quite a few bits of the mourne wall knocked down in my travels, now some of them have blackened rock like this one, so i was wondering, could the damage have been caused by a lightning strike  ???

My legs are sore just looking at those pics :)

Interesting about the blackened rocks fallen from the wall.Never really thought about it potentially being lightning.

Think I saw that chopper when I was driving home as we don't often see Pumas flying here nowadays

It's always confused me (not hard) about how the wall has fallen in certain places.  It wouldn't be easy for a person to knock some of those sections down by mistake or otherwise.

Great pics Liam, jealousy pervades the board.

Maybe I shouldn't mention that I'm currently on binnion summit for todays picnic. Weather not as nice as yesterday though, temp 11 deg, wind 12 gusting 17mph (playing with my new toys again), patchy cloud keeps spoiling the view  :(

Just go on and admit it liam, youve been kicked out of the house and your now residing in cove cave, great views but id be wary of a strange creature called 'the dowser' that spends it time its time roaming those hills. lol
