Title: Shelter stone??

George's trip to the shelter stone brought this back into my head.

On the map of the mournes the shelter stone is located at the head of the Ben crom res, but i have a book on the mournes that puts the shelter stone on the plateau of Cove. I 've seen the stone in question, its near the small lake on the plateau. Its a very large boulder that has a hollow part that you could easily bivvy in.

Can any one clear this up?????????

From a google it appears that there are two shelter stones one at cove and the other at ben crom. I am looking for a night at the one at ben crom but not sure of the exact location. does anyone have a photo of it?

I'm in for this! Photos would be nice, maybe Surfnscenic has some from his trip?

The OS map has a shelter stone at Ben Crom but no sign at Cove. Where did you think it was?

Slightly above cove lough round about the 450 mark.

Would you believe I've never even been there! We need to get out in the Mournes more just for an explore and general mess.

im always up for an explore round the mournes! I have been to the stone at the top of ben crom but was years ago, would love a return visit!  :)

here's an aerial view of the top of ben crom reservoir (taken today), can anyone spot the stone? i can't  :(

Some photos of the area at the northern tip of Ben Crom reservoir.  There is room over a number of pitches for 7-8 tents at least.
