Title: Sallagh Braes.
Post by: Rumblebum on July 17, 2011
I had mentioned to a guy from work that i had been up walking around the Sallagh Braes last month.

He then told me about a tunnel system there thats called the Knockdhu Souterrain,Map Reference: D348068 (3348, 4068), apparantely it dates back from the iron age.

If anyone is walking that area and in the mood for a bit of exploring then it may be worth having a look at, a head torch would be required.

This sounds brilliant, we should definitely get up there for a look.

We did an  night hike over the Sallagh Braes followed by a camp in Capenagh Wood. Was a top night!

I visited that souterrain when at school; it's pretty cool. I do remember it being dark and wet; not the sort of place I'd want to spend the night  :o

Have tried to find it since with no luck  :-\

Funnily enough there was an organised walk to the souterrain yesterday [Sunday]. Wish I could have went. It was led by the farmer whose land it is on. Just be aware it is on someone else's property.

Perhaps we could organise something as an NI Wild group ;D

I was at the Knockdhu Souterrain years ago but was never able to find it again, the Finnis Souterrain (Binders Cove) near Dromara is a perfect example and worth checking out, you don't even need a torch as there's solar powered lighting.
