Title: The Moyle Way
Post by: DominoYesMaybe on June 19, 2011
All - I know I am a newbie and this may seem a bit forward
But some of my walking chums and I are thinking of doing the moyle way
 http://www.walkni.com/Walk.aspx?ID=187 (http://www.walkni.com/Walk.aspx?ID=187) in August.
I am planning 2 walks a 20k and the full 40k.

The plan is to Bivvy in Portrush and I will organise a mini bus to lift and lay
people at the start in Glenariff (and on the slopes of Croughan for the 20k)
and then pick up in Ballycastle at the end.

Unfortunately Hotels are hard to come by in Ballycastle at the minute the credit
crunch being what it is, and Portrush as two nice big hotels and some lovely
eateries.

If anyone is interested in joining us you would be more than welcome.

This sounds awesome. Does the Moyle Way include some of the Antrim Hills Way?

In synopsis, the Moyle way starts in Ballycastle and ends in Glenariff. We will be doing it arse about face and starting in Glenariff and ending in Ballycastle , mainly cos ballycastle has the better pubs, that and you get the serious up hill stuff done first.

You do the full length of Genarriff, summit Trostan and Slieveanorra, 3/4 of Croaghan and 1/2 of Knocklayd. 80% of the route is off road way-marked tracks (Quite a bit of bog!!) here is the route in full http://www.walkni.com/d/walks/187/Moyle_Way_Overview_Map.pdf (http://www.walkni.com/d/walks/187/Moyle_Way_Overview_Map.pdf) I have done it before and it is a good 12 hour walk (inc of breaks) for me, but I am not the worlds fastest walker and I take a LOT of photos as I wander. ;)

Also a newbie and first time post...

...as part of the way is on my doorstep i cant really go past the opportunity. Depending on dates i would love to get out with the group!
Would do orra and croagan now and again with some of the best views in ni i reckon...but then again i might be a bit biased towards the glens :)

I would be interested, but it wouldn't be this weekend..
I climbed Troston about six years ago when I was training for my hillwalking leadership award. It would be nice to go back there. I loved coming down from Troston and walking through the forest, the scenery was amazing..
