Yes i installed that one 9 years ago but we stopped using it soon after and i assumed it had been taken out again. Here's a pic of it in 2002. I remember wandering about the mountain for a couple of hours in poor weather trying to find the wee fence, in those days we had no gps and no goretex, how did we ever cope  :o

What is it?

they are rainguages, one is a manual type where you lift out the innards and pour into a measuring tube each month to get the rainfall monthly total, the other is an electronic one which is fed to a datalogger in the plastic box which will give rainfall data to the nearest minute.

Hey Chuck, what's the story with the photo of the bottle on Flickr site?
Found it very close to Liam's contraption, was buried in the peat but strangely very clean looking. It says on the side "McKee & Son...Downpatrick" with this stamp on the bottom

I hit google when I got home, couldn't find any mention of a bottle makers or distillery of that name.

@Liam: one question, if the rainguage is no longer being 'services' how come it's not full of water?

"it's not used any more"
"it's still emptied every month"

"we need to close another hospital"
