Due to a surge in entries in the Mourne Way events over the last few days we have an additional requirement for Marshals at feed stations along the route of the Mourne Way. I know that many of you have chatted here about the event and many are thinking of entering or have done so – thanks for the support. If anyone would like to assist us with our marshalling duties we would welcome your assistance. Details are as follows:
Event Date – Saturday 11 June 2011
It WILL be an early start – approx 5.00am in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor. We need folk for the following duties:
Setting up and manning feed stations – two per station – total of 6 stations. We will transport all of the items to the feed station locations.
Two backmarkers who follow behind the last person in the event and inform the folk at feed stations that the course is clear to that point.
Taking down feed stations and bagging waste.
Return to finish line no later than 7.00pm.
Questions:
Will I be paid – yes, plus we have a trade account with some gear suppliers and can arrange kit at cost price if wanted (OMM stuff springs to mind for you folk). Plus we will give you a free, fully transferable entry into the Marathon or Challenge walk in 2012.
Do I need a vehicle – not particularly, but if you have one it will come in handy for sitting in during quiet times.
What is at the feed stations – Gazebo or large tarp, table, water canisters, food.
How do I dress – you guys know the hills, I don’t need to tell you that.
Where are the feed stations – Yellow Water, Leitrim Lodge, Bottom of Hen Track, Spelga Dam, Trassey Track, Donard Park.
Where do I sign up – fire us an email to info (at) 26extreme (dot) com and we’ll get back to you.
Apologies for the late notification on this one but it would be great if any of you folk could come on board and hopefully we would establish a marshalling partnership between 26 Extreme and the NI Wild Members.
Rowan @ 26 Extreme.

i'm on call for work this weekend so can't commit to marshalling as i might have to abandon post, but i'd like to pop up and sit a few hours at one of the posts, could possibly give someone a break

I have to say that despite being let down at the last minute by the people who had agreed to marshal the event (hence the need to ask here and several other places) the guys that run the event did a brilliant job. I helped out at the ultra half-way point and then moved to the Spelga station once all the ultras had passed through (or retired) and the marathon had set off. Then help shift stuff back to Kilbroney. There was a lot of standing around doing very little at points, especially before the first ultras came through and after the last ultra's passed on their way back, but the atmosphere was good and the weather was pretty ideal.
I saw Twentyclicks at the half-way point and again at mile 40(ish) ... I'm sure he'll stop by and tell you his own story at some point ...

I'm sure we could provide people for this next year with a bit of notice if needs be.

You should be putting your name down for the ultra next year redleader.
