Title: Questions for Laser comp owners
Post by: Typo-On on May 28, 2011
Had my new laser comp out last night. Did the Brandy pad outing again ( http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1911.0 (http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1911.0) )with the addition of Donard summit. Woke up this morning and the inner had quite a few beads of water on the top.

When I got up I realised this was most likely from the large amount of water coating the inner of the fly. The fly inner was totally covered. I have assumed that its condensation.

My questions are:

1) Do you think my assuption is correct?

2) If my assumption is correct do you recommend a mod that lifts the ends up to help reduce it (Im certain I looked at one while looking into the laser comp). I think Terrna Nova may have put this on the new versions?

It wouldnt bother me that much except when I sat up I touched the top of the inner and let some in and getting out I got my back soaked!

On a side note one of the lace lugs on my Salomon Quests broke as I was doing up my laces, didnt even notice that they are plastic! So will be taking them back to Cotswolds, I assume they will need to be replaced as the boot looks like it would need ripped apart to replace the lug.

Yea your assumption is correct. My laser used to suffer from it quite a bit; it is all down to setup. I normally leave the ends fully open so there is a load of airflow along with the internal vents. To hold the ends of the fly up you can just attach a small carabineer, which will act like a pulley.

Another method I use to keep condensation out is to open the outer zip bust above the covering of the storm hood this allows a bit of airflow while maintaining a waterproof shelter.

I do not have any pictures at the moment but the next time I have the tent up I will send a few on.

I think condensation tends to be a problem in all these one man tents until you find a compromise with the setup that allows better airflow.  Thankfully there is a website with all your Laser Comp requirements :)

Mine arrived last week, but as I'm not fit enough to be hitting the hills yet it's sitting at the foot of my bed dying to be pitched.  Hopefully get a dry day I can at least throw it up in the garden to make sure everything is there okay :)
