Title: campsites in donegal
Post by: chunk on May 26, 2011
looking for a good campsite in donegal. close to the sea, for fishing
needs to be proper as its accomadation for stag party, toilets, showers etc.
all sensible lads, not heavy drinkers, and all to old to be bothered with annoying folk.
would like close to town, for a pub.

so any ideas. i suggested the mountains outside letterkenny, for bit of wilderness, but not good enough  ???

i've stayed at a nice one at the entrance to ballyshannon with pub on site, time it right and you might catch the rory gallagher festival next weekend  ;) http://www.goingtomyhometown.com/  (i think the campsite is called lakeside but can't find a website for it)

another nice one which i've only managed to drive by a few times is near falcarragh (and not to far from errigal) see http://www.corcreggan.com/

there's also a good hostel at the base of errigal http://www.errigalhostel.com/hostel.htm with pub a short walk away (bit far to walk to town though)

there's a great beach you could camp on if you're in 4x4s but i'll pm you you the details  ;)

cheers liam, i love ballyshannon, went to the rory gallagher weekend a few times, as 2 of my mates were in a tribute band, double vision.
pub on site, close to ballyshannon. only 6 or 7 miles from bundoran, it sounds about right.

Knockalla caravan park.  We were there at Easter and its right beside Ballystocker beach wish is current the 2nd best beach in the world at the moment.  Site was really clean with good facilities.  Its also close to Portsalon village which has nices pubs and restaurantes in it and a lovely harbour.  If you fancy a walk you have the Knockalla range right behind the campsite as well.

Couldnt fault it and we are heading back there again in July

i thought you'd be more into a todds leap stag party than a bit of fishing, or is the paintballing a bit girly for you  ;D

I've stayed in Sleepy Hollows  (http://homepage.eircom.net/~sleepyhollows/index.htm) in Meenaleck, Crolly before and am planning to go there this summer again.  Decent showers, friendly owner and a couple of good wee pubs 5 minutes walk away (one of which was established by the father of Enya and Moya Brennan (Clannad).  14k west of Errigal and only 12k from Dungloe.

its not my stag party, i got married last month. todds leap don't allow shooting from the 4x4s so its not my style, unless i can swap a paintball gun for a .308, ultimate trophy hunt, some dudes head stuffed and mounted on a shield on my wall.

I've been to Sleepy Hollow too. Brilliant site - it's not too big and it's well laid out. Just get some of this before you go....
