We seem to have a good scattering of harbour rats on the forum so you may be able to answer a question for me.
Is there talk in the town about when the flats are going to be demolished? I'd love to take my wee fella down to see that. Heck there are probably some on the forum who'd be game for an urban bivvy on top of them the night before they light the fuse.
For those not from Larne, it is one of the two high rise blocks on your left when you are heading towards the ferry terminal.

Sorry to say they aren't being blown up but are being taken down part by part for recycling and what not :(
Gutted when I found this out as was looking forward to seeing it happen.

Yeah, what Grace said :-\
There were three. Shane House was taken down floor by floor in 2007; took about six months.
Gardenmore House is getting the same treatment I'm afraid. The company contracted to do it went bust around Christmas so the job is sitting half done at the minute ::)
Apparently the workers found four bales of hay in one of the top floor flats. Also found 300 empty bottles of vodka in another :o ???
I did noticed the last remaining one [Latharna House] is getting a lick of paint at the minute. These were built in the sixties and each one had 16 storeys.

Cheers for the replies, that's all a bit dull sounding.
If you look at the second link I put up, I think some of the pictures show the flat with all the vodka bottles.
