Oh You are so behind the times....

I've been at it since 2004, good few hundred found and loads hidden as well...

Don't start, it's addictive...!!!

Who's your boss btw, do you know his/her geocaching ID...?

I'm Team Barnabus, next time you are up Donard via Bloody Bridge you can do my 3 part multi-cache...

No idea what my bosses ID is, he has only just looked into this last couple of weeks.  I will look into it more over the weekend.  Need to get my chickens sorted out first.

I've been geocaching for about a year now ;D

Really great fun and takes you to some real beautiful places you may not have even known about. If you have kids then it's even more fun; gets them off the Xbox and away from Facebook  :D

I've tried geocaching a few times but never managed to find any caches. It was pretty disappointing.

I started in january, found about 70 now, love doing the mournes ones, plenty of fails but they are usually in a place worth visiting anyway.

Do you have GPS on your mobile phone?  I know there are geocaching apps on the iPhone including one made by the geocaching.com people, Groundspeak.  I've also used my car sat nav to try and locate a cache before as you can still enter the co-ordinates into it.

PS: Moved this topic as it falls under the "Walking, Running, Orienteering and Geocaching" section.  Just makes it easier to find in the future :)

Almost got a FTF  (http://www.geocaching.com/about/glossary.aspx#FTF)a while past, but was beaten to it by 15minutes :)

Scribble, did you ever get your Secret Santa cache planted somewhere?

i use the car satnav for geocaching (tomtom one classic) not ideal but when you get used to its liitle foibles it works quite well, only major problem i have is it won't let me put some of the mourne locations as favourites as they are so far from a road it assumes i'm inputting the wrong co-ords, you could probably pick an old one up from ebay for under £30, although a new one (from £90) would be handier as fresh batteries help when you have to leave the car for a while

There a few in Carnfunnock we can do on Sunday  :)

You can have a play with my Garmin Dakota.

I did a few with my Tomtom, while technically they work a dedicated GPS loaded with geocaches makes things easier.

Do you hook your Tomtom up to your PC?

If so I can send you a Pocket Query. It will basically have every cache in the country loaded onto it. Save you typing in coordinates every time. It appears on the Tomtom as POI like a petrol station, etc.

All you have to do is copy it from your PC into your Tomtom.

Cool glad it worked :)

You'll need to print out any description or hints. Or if you have a smartphone take it from that.

With a good geocaching friendly GPS it will have all this information stored on it.

Like your sig. TBH I can't remember how I did mine but do remember it was a bit of faffing about.

Mine is linked to my geocaching profile and will update itself automatically. Not sure if that is a Premium Membership only thing though  :-\

Premium Membership costs $30 a year and is essential if you want to make your geocaching life easier. Allows you access to Premium only caches and allows you to create pocket queries. Also allows you to be notified of new caches to help you get a FTF ;D

My GPS has died  :'( Literally just over one year old  :-\

It is currently with Garmin HQ; hopefully then can fix it with breaking my wallet  ;D So far I've heard good things about their customer service; I guess I'll soon have first hand experience.

Managed to get a lend of one from a friend to keep me going; I'm sitting on 91 caches so nine more before the big 100 ;D

so have you picked a special cache for your 100th?
Title: Re: Geocaching

None as yet.

We're off to Spain in a couple of weeks; provided my GPS is back with me I could wait and do a Spanish cache as my 100th  ;D

Fortunately I discovered my GPS was dead at home but is does show you can't depend on these things. They are really useful and essential for geocaching but if you want find your way off that mountain they play second fiddle to the map and compass  :)

Iphone is the way to go. I think a lot of guys who get loads of First to Finds have Iphones.

They'll be out and about and get an email telling of new cache. By the time I'd have the keys in the car they've logged it  :D

I can see new GPS units having the ability to do this.

I'm a happy boy  ;D

Called Garmin to check on my GPS. They've shipped a replacement today; yay  ;D

Think im defo going to go for the paid for membership. But after spashing on my new bag and headtorches have to wait till I get some more browny points.

It is worth it. I pay on a quarterly basis; it's $10 per quarter. I get emails everytime someone finds a cache with 10 miles of my house or if someone hides a cache within 15 miles; of course you can play about with it. I also get new Pocket Queries delivered via email twice a week. It's not just to get the latest caches in the area but also updates logs which can really help if you're stuck :)

What bag did you get?

I have an Android HTC phone and have tried all the geocaching apps, if you want the best try c:geo, it really has everything you could want for Geocaching and its free. It stores caches offline, finds nearest to you on a map, gps is accurate, can give you live map of nearby caches, links to geocaching.com and your account, so you can log finds, uses gps radar or compass or step by step directions to guide you and loads more.
I really can not say enough good things about this app.

My geocaching name is the same name as the one i use for this forum. There is a forum for Geocaching. They get a lot contributors from cachers from Northern Ireland. The Website is:

http://forums.geocachingireland.com/

I find it useful as you can learn a few thing from it so why not give it a go.
