The Sperrins Walking Festival will take place over the weekend of 7 - 9 August 2009, with a range of walks to suit all levels of abilities, from family walks and activities to challenging hill walks.
TWO NEW ADDITIONS to the festival this year include:
2 Day Overnight Walking Adventure this will consist of a 40km walk over two days with overnight camping in a nearby forest.
Self-Guided Walks – a range of short, medium and long walks will be recommended to walkers, so you can explore and enjoy at your own leisure. All of these walks are accredited and have supporting literature.
A range of social events will also take place so walkers can relax and unwind in the evening after a day in the hills.
The walking festival provides a fantastic way to discover the natural beauty of the Sperrins region, while at the same time learn some fascinating facts from the qualified guides.
The festival base for 2009 is Gortin Activity Centre located in Gortin village, Co.Tyrone. Gortin is located 10 miles from Omagh. (35 from Cookstown and 20 from Strabane). The activity centre has both self-catering and hostel accommodation. There is also other accommodation close-by in the region.
