Also there was a 14 year old died in England in his kayak. Got trapped under water in his boat.
Lets get lessons before we go out guys and girls, looks like fun but in reality its bloody dangerous, always wear a life jacket >:(

Spotted that on the BBC News site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-13176244). I was a bit miffed by this bit:
QuoteA kayaking instructor, who was with the group, made it back to shore of his own accord.
Think that needs a bit further explanation! I mean was he paddling back to shore to raise the alarm, or did he just decide "screw you guys, I'm going home (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaPysXyndJ4)"?!
I've paddled there with a gentle offshore wind and the instructor deliberately rafted us up and talked to us for five minutes - then he said "Now look how far out we've drifted while you weren't concentrating" it was a lesson I'll not forget in a hurry.
That said, you're five times more likely to drown while driving a car than you are while paddling a canoe or kayak. (I worked that one out from RoSPA's 2005 statistics)
