Has anyone got the gas connection for the trangia? Im thinking about getting one and would like some feedback. Im happy enough using the meths as I love the smell and silence of the alcohol burner, but was wondering about performance etc for when your in a hurry etc?

Interesting. I have the trangia group and trangia mini but never looked at the gas conversion. I always thought there were lighter alternatives when you wanted gas instead of meths.

I have converted trangias that I use with the Explorer Scouts but I'm looking to swap them to MSR Pocket Rockets instead - lighter and quicker and cheaper. Having said that the gas trangias to my mind are better than the meths from a cooking point of view because they stay lit and hot for longer and heat up quicker. The last time we had a mix of trangias the two poor souls sharing a meths burner were still waiting for their water to boil when everyone else had finished cooking. At that point they scrounged one of the gas ones and used it instead ;)
Not a problem (hopefully) for anyone on here but with scouts the meths is *much* more likely to leak and cause a problem than a gas canister!

For speed and efficiency its hard to beat gas, although the downside is there are more bits to go wrong on a gas stove and it only works well if your gas cart if playing ball! If it gets too cold or the pressure in the gas cart drops they can be dead slow and stop... That said I'm still a big fan of meths and use my Trangia pretty regularly. I've never tried the gas conversion with it, but if you do decide to go that route then I would strongly recommend looking at the Go System Adapt (http://www.go-system.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/296/category/43/). Pretty much the same thing as the Trangia unit, but a quick Google suggests its £15-20 cheaper. I've had a play with Go System gear in the past and it all seems pretty well put together.
Personally if I wanted to go the gas route and wanted to use bigger pots/frying pans like the Trangia, then I'd look at a remote canister stove. Something like the Primus Express Spider (http://www.primus.eu/Templates/Pages/ProductSheet.aspx?ItemId=90402) weighs in under 200g and would work nicely with your existing Trangia pots (which are actually reasonably light). It costs around the same as the Trangia gas converter but saves you carrying the bulky Trangia windshield and base. You'd have a pretty flexible setup then; remote gas stove or meths stove sharing the same pots and pans.

Oh, nearly forgot to say, Phil over at Lightweight Outdoors did a good video review of a few remote canister gas stoves. Check it out here - http://lightweightoutdoors.com/?p=1867

I looked at the gas fittings for the trangia also. Great piece of kit.
I ended up fabricating another gas ring to fit into the trangia instead as the kit was £10 cheaper than the Trangia setup (£35 in the various camping shops).
Still, a great wee addition to the Trangia kit and it goes without saying - faster boil time than meths.
Alan.
