Kat and I recently took a jaunt up to Cove Cave from the Carrick Little car park. Was a beautiful day, probably the best weather I've seen in the Mournes for a long time! I'd forgotten what a joy it is to be able to see all the peaks :)
We made it up and into the cave, but we only got as far as the last steep scramble before the exit hole. Didn't quite have the bottle to wriggle up and through this time, but will definitely be back for a repeat visit. I have to say that getting up to the exit hole was a bit more physical than I had originally imagined!
Put up a quick blog post about the trip, along with a few photos here - http://www.jonpatterson.co.uk/2011/cove-cave/

Looks like a cracking day, nice pics there.

Nice pics. Suprising weather for the time of year. The caves are next on my list for a day jaunt, maybe in the next few weeks.

I think I've been spoilt with good weather recently! Between Cove Cave and then the weather we got for Doan I've been fairly fortunate. Probably due several months of mist, rain and wind now to make up for it :D

Nice pics Jon. I've been meaning to get to cove cave for ages now.
Possibly route up the Devils coachroad and down the cave??

I had meant to have a wee snoop around the Coachroad when we were there, but ended up running out of time. Not sure what it would be like wriggling down through the exit hole of the cave rather than up, but we made our way down from the back of the cave easy enough. Would be a fun route!
Also spotted Hares Castle for the first time on the other side of the valley. It looks like a fun spot for a bit of a scramble as well!

Yeah there would be some good scrambles around Hare castles. Good for camping/bivvy good bit of shelter.
