You could park at the car park below Meelmore and Melbeg. walk up about 200 metres and cross the river and there is a great little spot I spotted the other day. there is already a used fire pit.

Cheers Lenny , would not really trust leaving my car parked overnight on it's own and walking from meelmore car park would be a no as I would have so much stuff with me and my youngest is a stubborn wee shite who won't walk with out moaning  >:(

Hey Scribble

I think what Lenny means is here:

Park at the Red "X" and camp and at the Blue "X".  the carpark is commonly refered to as Happy Valley Carpark.  It does look like an excellent place to camp with kids and you only have to walk about 200 yards to get plenty of privacy.  The river is also very handy for water and cleaning etc.  I've parked at this carpark a couple of times overnight and I am am happy enough to say you should be safe leaving a car there.

Hope this helps  8)

Pretty sure its open all year round, the toilets are certainley open and thats the main thing  ;D i've turned up there before with no one about and paid up the next day when the cafe opened, or you can visit their farmhouse down the road a bit and pay there. Can't see them being fully booked this weekend !

The toilet block being open would be the persuader but I like the sound of Lennys spot and it would do the boys the world of good roughing it and digging their own little holes for number 2s  ;)

The cafe was open last Sat/Sun, the big camp field was looking like it was being worked on (rubbish bins all stacked in one area, wooden railings being repaired) still plenty of camping space, either against the wall or in the 'kitchen garden' beside the cafe block. Just turn up...will be fine.
