I'm sick of messing around with bottles where I have to keep taking my backpack on and off so I'm looking for a drinking bladder.
What makes are any good and what can I expect to pay?
-
I'd go for a camelback version. The ex military ones seem pretty good value compared to the normal ones.
-
You can get a three litre one at britisharmysurplus for a tenner.
-
I hear great things about source widepak ones. Supposed to be cheap but great quality. Colswolds sell them starting at £15ish.
-
These boys are very good on gear you need.

I've a camelback ltr and i'm going back to the bottle my always leaks.

I have a widepak source and it's awesome. Very reasonably priced too.
-
Are they heavy to carry ?
-
Only a couple of grams for the bladder. The water is 1kg a litre though.
-
Half the pro action, not to bad :)

I hate them. mine exploded on the side of nevis and that was the final straw i swore I'd never use one again, went to cotswold after and got the total opposite a 1lt sigg, and I love it. even used it on the mmm. plus if I get too cold at night fire some hot water in it, and bamm toasty feet! plus an old dented sigg makes you look hard as nails on the hills!
-
I have a Sigg too but I like that I can drink from the bladder without having to dig a bottle out of the side pockets of the rucksack (which I can never reach without taking it off)
-
I'd rather spend the time hooking it out of the ruck that having all your gear soaked and running out of water.
-
IME They are good at what they do, perfect for biking or running. But for walking I prefer bottles as I know exactly how much I have are easily fillable and unlikely to burst

just get your mate to get it out for ya, that way you dont have to stop at all! you can get a conversion thing to give a sigg a bladder-esque drinking tube but i dunno how good they are.
