That's a bloody good question I would like an answer to ??? , all the fishing ones seem to be bivvy but they look like a tent with one side missing

I think Ronald Turnbull's book is "The Book of the Bivvy" so I've always just taken my spelling from that. Although seeing all the variations are just shortened versions of Bivouac then perhaps there is no right or wrong answer...
Ronald knows best ;)

Bivvy is the most common spelling I've come across... so much so that it is only relatively recently that I've seen the other spellings.
-
If in doubt, listen to Ronald has served me well so I'll take his word for it.
So Bivvy but what about Bivvyed Bivvying - they just look wrong.

Anything is better than trying to pronounce that ???

I just use a different spelling each time.
It's easier to please some people most of the time than everybody all of the time!!!
We could just use bivouac from now on. "Any one fancy a summit bivouac next weekend" lol ;D
