Title: The Hardest\Best Trekking Route in Europe

The GR20 in Corsica..... I know a guy who did it who said it was great.... I'd love to do it ....

Trekking the GR20 in Corsica entails undertaking the most demanding long-distance footpath in Corsica. Its itinerary crosses Corsica diagonally via high mountain ridges and age old mountain pastures in around 200 km (311 miles). One of its particularities exists in its difficulty : the GR20 is considered as the most difficult GR (grande randonnée) in Europe. Its reputation has spread and it has become the trek that most walkers have on their checklist.

The GR20 in Corsica is arguably Europe’s finest mountain trek. Its spectacular scenery, breathtaking colours and free roaming wildlife are only accessible to the ones that are prepared to do some serious walking and look for a challenge.

In French, G.R. stands for “grande randonnée” (translation: great trek). Of all the long distance footpaths spreading accross Europe, the GR20 in Corsica has definitely the reputation of being the toughest.

As you walk through towering pinnacles, deep forests of Lariccio pine and beech, windswept craters, glacial lakes and snow-capped peaks it is often possible to catch a glimpse of the dramatic coastline and the island’s outline in the sea.

I think maybe you got your figures mixed up, - 311Km is nearly 200 miles -  but looks a stunning trek anyways.

Way beyond my capabilities, but stunning, nonetheless.

Nice one Lenny.

Here are some photos of it...

Looks amazing.  The GR network in Europe is fantastic - you could spend years on different trails!

I've done part of the GR70 (Stevenson Trail) before, which was lovely and very well marked - the guidebook was more of a hindrance.
I'd like to finish it someday, do the Tour du Mont Blanc, the GR5 from Geneva to Nice, and of course the GR20.

Hopefully will have the business sorted enough this year that I can get away for a few weeks here and there.  Apart from the flights and transfers, these treks practically cost nothing other than food & fuel.  Are you thinking of trying this in the near future Mike?

GR20 is definitely on my "to do" list.  Think I read about it in a magazine and some of the photographs just looked stunning!  I also remember TGO Magazine ran an article awhile back, possibly by Paddy Dillon, about a GR across Mallorca that sounded like it would make for a nice break away.  Bit of Googling suggests it could be the GR221 (http://www.paddydillon.co.uk/guidebook/trekking-through-mallorca-gr221/).

Craig, Kat and I are hoping to do the Tour Mont Blanc in July!  Been working our way through the Cicerone guidebook to plan out our itinerary, just need to get things booked now!

I've really only just found out about these trails, its great to have something like this on our - doorstep (sort of- cheap flight to europe).  I'd like to do the GR20, I can't see any reason why I couldn't do it this year.

Think I'm going to try to work more weekends in work, so I can build up some more leave, so I can do a few things like this - this year.

Flights £300 belfast to corsica in september, seem to be that price most times of  year...

Need 15 days to do the full course, 2 days travelling, and maybe 3 spare, just in case....

hopefully, I can team up with someone and do it this year !
