This may be of interest to some.

Apparently very popular in England, Scotland and Wales. Every Saturday they have a 5k race in the water works in Belfast, all you have to do is sign up online and your in. Best of all though ITS FREE!!
They are relatively low key (no olympians knocking 3miles out in 12mins or anything!) Seems like a good way too keep the fitness up, even if you do one, do some training and do one a month later to see how you've improved. I'll be hitting the, if i'm off on a saturday.

That sounds like an interesting idea. Would be great to go regularly and see how your time/placing improves as your fitness improves, and you'd still be home with plenty of time before lunch :)

I like the sound of that, especially the breakfast in Devines after, had many an excellent fry in there in my youth ;D

I worked from the bottom up on the last event to see where the placement was of someone with the same profile (Male, age 30-34) as me. It was a bit scary as it was quite far up, only 8 minutes behind the leader. I'm sure I'd be getting lapped by the oul' hands.
I'm sure it feels great going out for the day on a Saturday knowing you've already done a 5k run that morning.

5k, are you sure you're not pushing it Chris?

Cool - I'd heard some people mention a Waterworks run but didn't realize it was regular.
Think I'm working every weekend until the new year, but if they're still running then (pun fully intended) I'm sure I'll have a go when I get a chance.
